We honor the women who turned whispers of dissent into a roar for change, transforming the landscape of our society through their courage and intellect.

Despite the progress we see, the reality remains: inequality is still a lived experience. Whether it’s the persistent gender pay gap, the “double burden” of domestic and professional labor, or the subtle ways women’s worth is still questioned in leadership spaces, there is a profound lack of understanding regarding the true value women bring to the table. A woman’s worth isn’t a variable to be negotiated—it is a fundamental pillar of a functioning, thriving community.

At UPAA Germany, we believe that empowering women isn’t just about “inclusion”; it’s about justice and progress for all. When we truly hear women, we build a world that is smarter, kinder, and more equitable.

Let’s move beyond the surface level. This March, let’s commit to:

✨📚 Filipino literature in Berlin! 📚✨

Join us on October 12, 5 PM at the Heilig Geist Kirche Parish Hall, Bayernallee 25A, Berlin, for the book launch of Be: Bloom Beyond Expectations by Dr. Techie Calibuso, together with her publisher Kimberly Lu (Kimilu Love & Light and Lifescribing).

They will also present the inspiring works of their group, The Authors Circle, whose books are featured at the upcoming Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025, with the Philippines as Guest of Honor.

🌸 Don’t miss this celebration of Filipino creativity and storytelling! A merienda will follow the program.

Father’s Day in Germany: A Cultural Insight

In Germany, Father’s Day (Vatertag) is celebrated quite differently from the tradition many Filipinos might be familiar with. Instead of the usual third Sunday of June, Germans observe Father’s Day on Ascension Day (Christi Himmelfahrt)—a Christian holiday commemorating the ascension of Jesus Christ. This falls 40 days after Easter Sunday, and in 2025, it will be on May 29.

Historically, Father’s Day in Germany began as part of religious traditions but evolved during the 19th and 20th centuries into a more secular celebration. Today, it is common for men—fathers or not—to organize outdoor gatherings or go on hiking trips, often bringing handcarts filled with food and drinks. This version of the celebration is sometimes called “Herrentag” or “Men’s Day.”

It is also a public holiday across the country, making it a popular time for family outings or weekend trips.

For Filipinos living in Germany, learning about these traditions offers a deeper appreciation of local customs and how cultural meanings evolve. Whether you mark the day with your family or reflect on its significance from afar, we wish all fathers a meaningful and joyful Vatertag.
