The Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin is organized by Plivka e.V., a registered association dedicated to promoting Ukrainian cinema worldwide.

Our goal is to present the current film landscape in Ukraine and to explore it together with the audience. We would like to show high-quality Ukrainian cinema products in cooperation with cinemas and various institutions, with experts and other guests, and make them available for discussion. We strive to familiarize the audience with a multitude of genres and artistic approaches of Ukrainian filmmakers, to talk about the role and perception of Ukrainian cinema in the German and global context. To carry out exciting projects that will be attractive not only for those interested in Ukraine and Eastern Europe but also for other viewers who are interested in artistic processes and products. With Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin we want to create a platform for the discussion of current issues for Ukraine in a European context. We want to hold our film screenings in professionally suitable rooms, give our viewers time, space, and topics for discussions and create an atmosphere of mutual dialogue.

The Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin returns for its 7th edition under the theme “Emergency Spaces / Зони Безпеки.” ⚡️🌪️

Festival Co-Founder Daria Buteiko .days on this year’s motto:

“In recent years, one crisis has followed another, making the reality we once knew seem increasingly distant and difficult to grasp. This is precisely why spaces of refuge and solidarity have become so important: they offer room for reflection and open up new perspectives for the future.”

This year’s visual identity translates that idea into a space of its own:

“Two dark volumes define a luminous threshold, suspended between refuge and uncertainty. Inspired by the radiating geometry of the Ukrainian flag, light is reinterpreted as the beam of a film projector, connecting the festival’s cultural identity with the language of cinema.”

— Stefano Ciannamea , festival graphic designer

For the fourth time, we are happy to collaborate with one of the summer highlights for cinephiles in Berlin and beyond: Lake Side Film Festival! Lakeside Film Festival

This year, the UFFB team will present „Sanatorium“ (2025), the latest documentary by Irish filmmaker Gar O’Rourke. Fitting for the summer season, the film takes us to a fading Soviet-era health resort near Odesa, where visitors seek wellness, healing, and moments of escape while the reality of war continues just beyond its walls.

Described by The Guardian as a Martin Parr-like documentary, „Sanatorium“ offers a unique, poignant, and often surprising portrait of life in extraordinary circumstances.

Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin takes place every October, and members of the team will be there to introduce the film and meet the audience.

See you by the lake!
