We are very proud to share that our 17 year old student Angel Amuzu has been selected to participate in the Abury Girls Gearing Up Academy. This leadership program will take place in Berlin, Germany, this July.

Angel joined Dodoo Coding Club in 2020 at the age of 11.

She has since shown consistent academic excellence, achieved a very strong BECE result, and is currently attending Wesley Girls’ High School, one of Ghana’s Top 3 senior high schools. In 2024, she also took part in the Amalitech Girls Coding Bootcamp in Takoradi.

Leadership programs such as Girls Gearing Up are an important complement to academic achievement and the practical tech skills taught by DCC. In 2024, our student Esther Owusu participated in the GGU program - and the personality development she experienced from GGU certainly supported her in excelling at Ashesi University.

DCC will support Angel with a scholarship covering her travel arrangements.

Alima Kyeremateng, 15, has made strong progress this year through consistent learning at Dodoo Coding Club. With clear aspirations to become a software developer and a civil engineer, she has steadily built practical skills in web development and applied them, amongst other projects, by creating a website for her father’s barbering and her mother’s drinks businesses using what she learned at DCC.

Academically, Alima is now a science student at St. John’s Grammar School (Category A) and achieved a major milestone by being selected for her school’s National Maths and Science Quiz (NMSQ) team as the only girl chosen out of more than 600 students. This achievement reflects her academic strength and confidence in highly competitive settings, and shows how early, structured learning can translate into real capability and ambition.

Wiqdad Gaddafi is one of our “OGs”: She joined DCC at its origination in 2019, won 🥇1st prize (her first own laptop) at our first workshop competition in 2020, and participated in an internship with our partner in Takoradi.

Now 20 years old, she is set to move to the Western part of Ghana again in a display of how sustained exposure to STEM and IT can shape long-term direction.

Through her time at Dodoo Coding Club, she developed strong analytical thinking, confidence, and independence, which influenced her decision to pursue a BSc in Mining Engineering at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) at Tarkwa. The Mining Engineering program at UMaT is highly competitive and stands out as one of the few fields of study in Ghana that is deeply practical and offers clear employment opportunities after graduation.

Through her Amalitech internship, Wiqdad became self-reliant at a young age and comfortable navigating professional, often male-dominated, technical environments.

Although her academic path now lies in engineering rather than coding, she remains connected to DCC as an alumna. Her top WASSCE results within her DCC cohort reflect the discipline and resilience nurtured through the club, qualities that continue to support her as she moves forward in a demanding STEM field.

Deborah Ofori Appiah (Debbie), 18, has also had a really impressive year.

After graduating from Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School at 17, she began her BSc. in Computer Science at Ghana Communication Technology University

In her first year, she has deepened her skills in Python and C++, while also seeking learning beyond lectures. She took part in the Tech & Beyond Expo 2025, attended the Python Ghana ’25 Conference, and joined the IEEE Telepresence Competition team, where a robot was remotely operated in Australia.

Within Dodoo Coding Club, Debbie has stepped into a mentoring role as a Teaching Assistant, supporting younger learners. Alongside this, she continues to build independently, including work on her StudyHub project and her De-Angie’s wristwatch website, showing persistence and genuine curiosity.

Christian Selasi Mamah, 15, continues to grow as a focused and inventive learner.

A student at St. Augustine’s College, widely regarded as a Top 3 boys senior high school in Ghana, he was selected as one of only 40 students nationwide to participate in the National Olympiad in Informatics; a strong reflection of his talent and dedication.

Alongside this, Selasi volunteered at the Tech & Beyond Expo and worked with peers on practical projects such as Eco Bin 360 and the Smart IQ Test Project. Through steady practice and collaboration at Dodoo Coding Club, he is building a solid foundation in Python, C++, JavaScript, and web development, guided by curiosity, discipline, and a clear interest in using technology to solve real problems.

As the year comes to a close, we want to share a brief update on how our students are growing. Many of them have been part of Dodoo Coding Club since our foundation, and it has been rewarding to see how steady learning, curiosity, and community support are translating into real progress in their lives.

We’ll start with someone many of you are familiar with: Esther Owusu, now 20 years old.

She is currently studying Law with Public Policy at Ashesi University, widely regarded as the leading private university in West Africa.

She was awarded a highly competitive, full four-year scholarship from the Mastercard Foundation, an opportunity she is deeply grateful for and does not take lightly.

Over the past year, Esther has focused on making the most of this chance by combining academic commitment with leadership and service. She holds leadership roles within the Rise for Impact Community at Ashesi and serves as Events Coordinator on the Youth Advisory Board of Girls Gearing Up.

Alongside her studies, she continues to invest in personal development through mentoring and skills-building, while remaining actively engaged in volunteer work and community initiatives.

The world is changing, and so is our program!

AI is transforming the world, reducing the need for programmers, but increasing the demand for innovative thinkers who can develop tech-powered solutions to real-world problems.

That was our focus today, at our 2025 Workshop, where 10 teams identified pressing Ghanaian issues and created AI-powered concepts to tackle them. Some of these ideas have tremendous potential!

To celebrate the teams with the best concepts, we headed to a party at ._school_accra, where we enjoyed German cake, played football with kids from the school, and had an amazing time!

A huge thank you to our equipment sponsors .immobilien for providing laptops and smartphones, and to our financial donors for supporting our program!

We are celebrating Growth and New Beginnings! 🚀👨‍💻👩‍💻

We’re excited to announce a significant leadership transition at Dodoo Coding Club, marking a new chapter in our journey of empowering our young coders.

😥
After 5 incredible years, we’re bidding a fond farewell to two pillars of our community:
- Robert Mawunyo, our dedicated Program Coordinator who commenced our operations on the ground, will soon set off to pursue a Master’s degree in Mathematics at the University of Texas at El Paso.
- Kirlin Mensah, our inspiring Instructor, is set to begin a new adventure studying Information Engineering at the Technical University of Munich in September.

Robert and Kirlin, your passion and dedication have been the driving force behind our club’s success. The legacy you’ve built will continue to inspire future generations of coders. We’re immensely proud of you and can’t wait to see what you’ll achieve next!

😀
As we embrace change, we’re thrilled to introduce two exceptional individuals who will lead us forward:
- Prince Oduro steps in as our new Program Coordinator, bringing a wealth of IT experience and innovative ideas. He is a graduate in Technology, Information and Communications Technology from Ho Technical University, and has worked as a web developer and information technology facilitator for several years.
- Alvin Johnson Aboagye joins as our new Instructor, armed with extensive programming expertise to guide and inspire our members.

To our coders, supporters, and partners: Thank you for being part of this journey. With our new leadership team, we’re excited about the future of Dodoo Coding Club. The best is yet to come!

Join us in wishing Robert and Kirlin the very best in their academic pursuits, and in welcoming Prince and Alvin to the Dodoo Coding Club family!

DCC is a program for high school students. As our first students have graduated, a few spots have opened up for new members 😀

Demand from the Pokuase community has been overwhelming - hundreds of teenagers have shown strong interest in taking one of the 10 available spots.

To fairly select those students with the most potential, we have asked principals and teachers from both public and private local schools to pre-select their most promising students, irrespective of socioeconomic status.

This week, we invited these students for an information session to get to know DCC. Their curiosity about IT, STEM and our program was absolutely outstanding and we look forward to welcoming some of them in our program soon.

The next step: Our short-listed candidates will take an admission test that checks their mathematical and analytical abilities. The 10 best candidates will then be admitted to our program 🎉💙
