Young Women Rise (YOWORI) conducted a monitoring visit in Neno District, where the organization is implementing the SRHR 4 ALL Project funded by AmplifyChange. The monitoring activity aimed to assess the progress and impact of project activities being implemented in the communities, including peer education sessions, community advocacy initiatives, and radio programs.
The Project Officer, Promise Jalasi, said that the project initially trained 40 youth as peer educators so that they could educate their fellow young people on issues related to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). She explained that, so far, the peer educators have successfully conducted 17 community advocacy sessions across all the 5 Traditional Authorities in Neno District. In addition, the project has conducted 12 radio programs from November to date, creating a platform for young people to discuss and access information on SRHR issues.
Promise Jalasi noted that within six months, the project has managed to achieve its intended targets and continues to make a positive impact among young people in the district. She further added that by the end of the project, they hope to see more young people accessing SRHR services and information, especially in efforts to reduce cases of early pregnancies among adolescents and youth.
One of the facilitators, Franklin Chipala, said that they have managed to educate young people in their communities on issues related to SRHR and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). He explained that they conducted door-to-door mobilization to encourage young people to attend SRHR sessions within the community. Franklin added that the sessions incorporated engaging activities such as drama and music to motivate and attract more youth participation, helping create awareness and encourage open discussions among young people on SRHR and GBV-related issues.
Through the monitoring exercise, Young Women Rise reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people with accurate SRHR information and improving access to essential services in Neno District. The organization continues to work closely with communities, peer educators, and stakeholders to create a safer and more informed environment for adolescents and youth.
