Veganism is not a diet or set of practices but an ethical principle. "Vegan except cheese" nonsense legitimises exploitation for the sake of "harm reduction", keeping the status quo of animal objectification. This nonsense directly comes from "Vegan" Outreach CEO Matt Ball who in turn got it from Peter Singer, who says that it's fine to use animals every once in a while, if you "so good" the rest of the time. This frames non exploitation as virtue.

Every non-human individual is someone who is here to be themselves, a fellow experiencer of their fragile life. We have never had any right to control them or to see them as less important. When you look at someone, do you reduce them to your exploitative purpose? Do you disregard them entirely? (.deserve.respect)
