This is Lesotho. For many it may be a country somewhere in Africa, or perhaps a country you have never heard of, so here is a little information.
Lesotho is a land locked country, completely surrounded by South Africa. It sits high in the mountains so it is one of the few countries with a regular snowfall. You know what is rather bizzare? Lesotho has a snowpark, but it does not have a skatepark which is why act. The local community in Maseru, the capital city, is united under hosting many talented riders. Their only spot is a huge concrete slab (watch the video closely), so we’ve used it as an inspiration to our design. We plan to build a streetlike skatepark, resembling their “white spot”.
With many kids in the city, we chose the Lepereng district in the capital for the future skatepark. It is accessible by all, close to the center, open to public and maintained by the olympic committee of Lesotho.
Building a skatepark in Lesotho is a multi-year strategy of ours as it is in a close proximity to the centers in Swaziland and Mozambique. Their interaction is what we aim for.
Less than 10 months to go, Lesotho will soon have its first skatepark. Let’s go!
