Michaela Bartoňová is preparing a lecture for a symposium in Northeim for the festival Schein und Sein – Die Figur zwischen den Welten/ Appearance and Reality – A Figure Between Worlds and I will be talking about puppet theatre inspired by science. At a time when ruling parties are opposing science and proven facts, when the internet is bursting at the seams with disinformation, we are trying to intervene in education through theatre. In a world that often divides disciplines, science and art stand out as two fields that, when combined, create a fascinating and lively intersection. Despite their apparent differences – science is based on facts and empirical evidence, while art delve into creativity and other more abstract expressions – both share a deep connection that reflects the complexity of human thought and achievement.
Both science and art, by their very nature, thrive on inspiration. Artists draw from the world around them, reflecting and interpreting reality through their unique perspectives. Similarly, scientists often find inspiration in nature, the universe, and the complex workings of life. For example, the subtle patterns in a snowflake can inspire an artist to create a painting or sculpture, while those same patterns can lead scientists to understand the effects of temperature and pressure on crystalline structures. This symbiotic relationship illustrates how creativity in the arts can enhance scientific inquiry, and vice versa.

Sympozium 10. ročníku Německé konference loutkového divadla zkoumá loutku jakožto pomezí mezi materiálním a imaginárním, mezi viditelností a projekcí, tělem a významem. Mezinárodní umělci a vědci se budou zabývat tím, jak loutky vytvářejí, posouvají a zpochybňují světy – esteticky, filozoficky a sociálně. Sympozium podporuje výměnu mezi praxí a teorií a otevírá nové perspektivy loutkového divadla jako umělecké formy nacházející se mezi světy.

Nejde o klasickou výuku ani běžné divadlo, ale o silný společný zážitek, který propojuje emoce, imaginaci a poznání.
