- Using Canva, Trello Kanban, and being open to using other software as needed

We offer experience, volunteer status, and potential long-term membership in our organization for committed colleagues. This allows more managerial, leadership and decision-making opportunities, as well as voting rights in the association. In the meantime, we are working hard to create more support and funding for Atlas, and we aim to professionalize this position as soon as possible.

Atlas is now closer than ever before to a functional platform. We can now fine tune what the birds-eye view perspective will look like:

🌍 big-picture portraits of individual world regions
📍 brief profiles of individual countries
🧑‍💼 data layers to illustrate global living standards, level of peace, democracy, human rights index, and more.

The prototype is complete with both desktop and mobile versions. Next we build it, and connect it to our entries database.

We are looking for a web developer with a focus on building user-friendly, interactive websites, with an interest in the NGO sector. You may also learn about other parts of the project if you choose to be more involved.

What we expect from you:
You will focus on implementing an existing Figma prototype into reality using Webflow. Updates and changes are possible, and we expect reliable communication. With more entries planned for this year, work has begun on a prototype of an interactive socio-political world map, which will be a base of our encyclopedia.

Here is a quick preview of a Figma-based concept, thanks to the help of a product designer Azamat Kanatbekov. 🙌

More updates coming soon, let us know what you think! ✍️

Has globalisation brought us all closer together, or does it drive us apart? Look for the answer with us, by reading one of our past entries.

Professor Francis Jegede published his article with us in 2024, and this continues to be a relevant point of discussion to this day. See this and many other entries already on the site, while we work to bring you the portrait of the MENA region!

Atlas is proud to present to you our next goal - developing the MENA portrait.

By shifting our focus to the Middle East & North Africa region we are recognizing the need for accurate, big-picture information available to the English-speaking general public. 📡

People often catch only fragments of events in the region, which can lead to stereotypes, conspiracies, and dehumanization. Misconceptions spread when there is a lack of broader understanding. We are addressing this by building a new portrait, easily accessible to all, through Google and AI search engines, and links or recommendations by media outlets, influencers and NGOs.

Same structure as the Ukraine-Russia War portrait found on our website, but with new content, created in partnership with Berlin-based Candid Foundation. 🤝

As we approach 2026, let's take a moment to introduce our Atlas of Today’s World team. We are 6 volunteers who are united by the belief in our project.

Over the last decade of Atlas and the Online Encyclopedia of Migration, nearly 200 people have contributed to our initiatives. 🫶
Now, with a stable core team that will meet regularly in person, we’re starting another significant portrait: the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA).

It is an ambitious yet necessary step. We have heard from researchers, NGOs, journalists and everyday people about the need for deeper, more accessible insights into the region. We agree, and if you do too - use this moment to join as a member or partner!

Your support will help us turn complicated stories into accessible public knowledge. This is something the world needs now more than ever. 🌍
