In honor of the American poet Michael March, the Cairo Literary Forum invites guests to a special memorial event titled “Remembering the Poet Michael March,” featuring Professor of Language and Translation Dr. Khalid El-Beltagy, a renowned novelist Hamdy El-Gazaar, and founder of the Cairo Literary Festival Mohamed El-Baaly. This evening will be dedicated to Michael March's poetic and personal influence and, through a variety of readings and testimonials, will focus on his life and relationship with the Arab cultural scene.

We warmly invite you to the unveiling of a memorial plaque honoring Michael March. The plaque will be unveiled by the Mayor of Prague, Professor Bohuslav Svoboda, at the New Jewish Cemetery on May 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., with international guests in attendance (Jim Gabbe and Jarek Anders from the U.S., Mary Heimann from the U.K., and others). Robert Menasse and Chaim Kočí will also speak. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the First Lady of the Czech viola, Jitka Hosprová. Verses from Michael March’s final, unpublished collection When the Magic Leaves, translated by Zuzana Mayerová, will also be read.
