Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s son Kim Aris urges prayers for release of political prisoners

Kim Aris, the son of jailed Myanmar State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, has urged the public to join him in praying for the release of his mother and all political prisoners during the Thingyan New Year festival.
“Thingyan is a time for forgiveness, renewal and being together. This year, many families are still apart. As a son, I have one wish—that my mother, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and all political prisoners will be released and reunited with their loved ones,” he said in a video posted on Wednesday.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and former President U Win Myint have been jailed since the February 1, 2021 coup. Thousands of other political prisoners remain jailed across the country.
The National League for Democracy’s youth wing also announced plans to mark the New Year by praying for the release of all political prisoners. Supporters were encouraged to hold flowers and share one-minute prayer videos on social media, depending on security conditions. (Photo: Kim Aris)
