Goood morning, COT!

Yesterday, several members of Goood Morning Toastmasters attended the COT (Club Officers Training): an event in which club officers – and future leaders – get training to perform better in their club roles.

It was a morning full of networking, learnings and fun; together with other Toastmasters from Czech Republic.

We also got recognized – together with Prague Business Toastmasters and MSD Toastmasters – as Smedley Distinguished club!

Special thanks to the organizers and role coaches, for this wonderful day: Kate, Maria, Adolfo, Anna, Stepan, Zofie, Sudipt, Martin and David.

Have you ever heard that “magic happens outside of your comfort zone”?
At Toastmasters, we don’t just hear it.
We embrace it and apply it.

One of the most recent examples happened in our last meeting, called “Beyond our borders aka A club visitation”.

Where Vaclav – member of Barclays Toastmasters club in Prague – not only gathered the courage to be Toastmaster of the day… but he did it in a different club!

Toastmasters is a splendid community that allow members to expand and explore different clubs, benefitting themselves and all the clubs involved.
Like Tomas said, “Every morning is good, but every Tuesday is goood, at Goood Morning Toastmasters”.

In the first speech of the day – called “Zzzzz” – Anna explained the importance of having good sleeping habits. The most memorable takeaway was her recommendation to protect your sleep quality using the DCQ (Dark, Cool and Quiet room) model.

Then, at “Better out, than in”, Harm took us through his travel to India and the lessons he learnt there that he applied to his personal and professional life.

And on the third speech of the day, Cedric transported us to “A relaxing walk in the forest”. What seemed to be a quiet weekend to avoid stress from work turned into a thrilling experience involving the Czech police (or not), locals and a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog.

Maria was the Table Topic Master, and asked our volunteers to improvise 1-2 minute speeches with “wrong answers” after showing them a moment from an iconic movie:
➡️ Silvana: Jurassic Park.
➡️ Daniel: Joker.
➡️ Urzala: The wizard of Oz.

And the winners were…

And our president Maria recognized the great job of our club officers, and reminded us that elections to renew the team will happen on Tuesday 23rd of June.

Goood morning, 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳!

Last Saturday, there was the District 110 contest, where the best Toastmasters from 9 Eastern European countries competed in several categories…

… and Thor – the Vice President of Education (VPE) of our club – made us proud!

Not only he competed in 3 categories…
… but he achieved a third place and became champion in two categories!

🥇 in “International Speech Contest”.
🥇 in “Evaluation Speech Contest”.
🥉 in “Table Topics Contest”.

What a way to raise the bar and inspire others! Congratulations!
And congratulations also to the other contestants, the level was impressive!

Have you ever heard that “humans are the only species that falls in the same hole twice”? I bet you did.
But what about you, specifically? What is your leitmotif?

“Light Motif” was the topic chosen by Alen – our Toastmaster of the day – in one of our last meetings, to make us reflect on things we keep repeating. Some are bad, but others are goood (like waking up early on Tuesdays to attend our club meetings!) :D

Club members and guests shared their experience, and then it was time for the prepared speeches:

In the first speech of the day – called “Prejudice” – Anna reflected about mentorship. Some people think that mentorship is about forcing your opinions onto your mentee, but she claimed that the goal of a mentor is to support the mentee through his or her growth. She praised her mentor Sue, and reminded us that “the teacher appears when the student is ready”.

At “The last dance”,Adolfo took us through his experience with dancing – from the early doubts into the later confidence brought by experience – and connected it with the feedback he received from club leaders regarding his performance as our club’s VPPR (Vice President of Public Relations).

The third speech was an ice breaker! On “My way of Toastmaster”, Marta introduced herself to the club, and reminded us that thoughts that limit people (“Am I good enough?") are fuel that helps some to improve. She finished her speech beautifully: “Many times we are limited by our childhood labels. […] Don’t let your past define who you will be”.

Tomas was the Table Topic Master, and gave proverbs or songs to improvise 1-2 minute speeches:
➡️ Vaclav: “The early bird catches the worm”.
➡️ Joseph: “Human nature”, by Michael Jackson.
➡️ Stefan: “Every cloud has a silver lightning”.
➡️ Peter: “Highway to hell”, by AC/DC.

Life advice of the day: “shoot your shot”.
In business, in relationships, in life.
And, sometimes, shoot your colleagues… on a laser tag.

Last week Goood Morning Toastmasters and Prague Business Toastmasters faced each other once again.

Once again?

Yes, once again. Because healthy competition helps each other grow.
And because otherwise life would be too boring 😉

This time we didn’t compete on a public speaking contest... but on laser tag.
And it was epic!

Lots of screams, adrenaline, competitiveness… and fun. Mostly fun.

Social events like this are a true representation of the splendid community that we are part of. A group of public speaking enthusiasts that want to grow and – even though we want to be the best – we also want to help people around us to improve.

Now the million dollar question:
You might be wondering which club is the best.

Why don’t you see it by yourself?

One of the main reasons why people join Toastmasters is to become good at public speaking.
But, at Goood Morning Toastmasters, we want people to become 𝘎𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵!

“𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘎𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵!”was the topic chosen by Adolfo – our Toastmaster of the day – in one of our last meetings to remind us that in March we renew our memberships; and to reflect about why we joined the club and how we benefited from being part of it.

Club members and guests shared their experience, and then it was time for the prepared speeches:

Anna delivered a speech called “Learning To Fly”. A self-improvement story to show how to overcome difficulties in life.

Then, Alen talked about the importance of public speaking. During his speech called “Let Me Reintroduce Myself”, he surprised all of us including the “A.L.E.N.” communication framework, and demonstrated how to include it into our speeches.

And on his speech called “The World Before Tech”, Jakub reflected on the use of technology and how it changed our lives. Introducing his concept “Bubble trouble”, he presented us things that worked – and others that didn’t – to use technology better.

Harm was the Table Topic Master, and gave to our brave volunteers some pictures to improvise 1-2 minute speeches about them:

➡️ Katka talked about a book that inspired her to get from goood to grrreat.
➡️ Leos reflected on a moment of his life when he realized that goood was good enough.
➡️ Sandra shared which future greatness she is looking for.

Few days ago we celebrated our Club Contest at Goood Morning Toastmasters, led by Anna, where participants competed in two categories: International Speech Contest and Evaluation Contest.

Here is Tosin's review of it:

The speech contest was tight, we had two speeches that were relatable, actionable and memorable. Thor and Štěpán shared personal stories, full of passion.

The Evaluation contest started by an enthralling speech and performance by Safiyya, who engaged us through her entire speech. A perfect speech for our contestants to evaluate.

First was Tomáš. He was smooth, sophisticate and evaluated the entire speech without notes.

Second was Thor, he engaged us with humour and followed the Toastmasters format of 321 for evaluation, delivering a master class turning an evaluation into a mini speech.

Third was Štěpán for me personally, this was one of his best performances I’ve seen at the club… Very professional and straight to the point, no wasted conversations.

Fourth was Harm, who for me was the surprise of all the evaluators because he was Original and very aware by noticing something critical that other contestants didn’t.

The Fifth contestant was Manish, who gave us a consistent and efficient evaluation. As a friend who’s responsible for me being at the club, I challenge him to move from the safety of evaluations to the main speech contest for next year.

And for the final contestant we have Urzala, who gave her first ever evaluation at the club as a contest…. What a brave Soul! No one could tell, it was her first ever evaluation.

There are always two versions of the same story.
And sometimes, even more than that.

Remember when Goood Morning Toastmasters hosted Bob 'Idea Man' Hooey for an Open House leadership workshop?

Here is what our members shared about it.

"I had just returned from a work trip and felt tired with very little energy to attend, but I left with countless tips and a renewed sense of motivation.

What inspired me most was how clearly Bob knew he wanted to be a professional speaker and how he did everything to make it happen. I am grateful that I had the chance to listen to both talks and to meet Bob and his wife Irene."
