NÁVŠTĚVA REFORMNÍ ŽIDOVSKÉ OBCE Z OKLAHOMY: NÁVRAT KE KOŘENŮM, KTERÉ NÁS SPOJUJÍ 🇨🇿🇺🇲✡️
S velkou radostí jsme na šabat v naší pražské komunitě Ec chajim Praha přivítali delegaci americké reformní židovské obce Temple B'nai Israel z Oklahomy, vedenou rabínkou Vered Harris.
Rabínka Harris se s námi během bohoslužby podělila o mimořádně osobní a dojemné dvar Tora, v němž vyprávěla o svých českých židovských kořenech. Popsala také silný okamžik, který prožila během uplynulého týdne, kdy společně s naším rabínem Rabbi David Maxa navštívila dům bezprostředně sousedící se Španělskou synagogou, v němž před druhou světovou válkou žili její praprarodiče.
Někdy nás od našich kořenů dělí tisíce kilometrů, několik generací a téměř celé století dějin. Přesto může stačit jediná návštěva, abychom znovu pocítili, že k určitému místu patříme. Příběh rabínky Harris nám připomněl, že dějiny českého židovstva nejsou pouze dějinami těch, kteří zde dnes žijí. Jsou také součástí příběhů tisíců židovských rodin rozptýlených po celém světě. Jejich potomci dnes žijí ve Spojených státech, Izraeli i mnoha dalších zemích, ale v rodinných vzpomínkách, jménech, fotografiích a vyprávěních si uchovávají spojení s Prahou, českými městy a obcemi.
Věříme, že tato spojení mají smysl nejen pro naši minulost, ale především pro naši společnou budoucnost. Židovský život v českých zemích není pouze vzpomínkou. Je živý, rozvíjí se a znovu roste. A každé setkání s potomky českých židovských rodin nám připomíná, že jsme součástí jedné velké židovské rodiny, jejíž pouta nepřerušily ani hranice, ani oceány, ani běh generací.
Rádi bychom proto povzbudili všechny židovské rodiny a komunity po celém světě, které mají své kořeny v českých zemích, aby znovu objevovaly své spojení s místy, odkud pocházeli jejich předkové. Aby přijely do České republiky, navštívily domy a synagogy spojené se svou rodinnou historií, sdílely s námi své příběhy a poznaly současný židovský život. Naše komunita Ec chajim je místem, kde se tato spojení mohou obnovovat, kde se rodinná paměť setkává s živou židovskou přítomností a kde mohou vznikat nová přátelství a partnerství mezi komunitami napříč kontinenty.
Rabínce Vered Harris a všem našim přátelům z Temple B'nai Israel ze srdce děkujeme za jejich návštěvu, společný šabat a inspirativní setkání. Věříme, že to nebylo naše poslední společné setkání.

A VISIT FROM A REFORM JEWISH CONGREGATION IN OKLAHOMA: REDISCOVERING THE ROOTS THAT CONNECT US 🇨🇿🇺🇲✡️
It was a great joy and honor to welcome a delegation from Temple B'nai Israel, a Reform Jewish community in Oklahoma, led by Rabbi Vered Harris, to celebrate Shabbat with our community, Ec chajim Praha.
During the service, Rabbi Harris shared a deeply personal and moving D'var Torah, reflecting on her Czech Jewish roots. She also described a particularly meaningful moment from the past week, when she visited, together with our rabbi, Rabbi David Maxa, the house immediately next to Prague's Spanish Synagogue, where her great-great-grandparents had lived before the Second World War.
Sometimes thousands of miles, several generations, and almost a century of history separate us from our roots. Yet a single visit can be enough to remind us that there are places in this world to which we still belong.
Rabbi Harris's story reminded us that the history of Czech Jewry is not only the history of those who live here today. It is also part of the stories of thousands of Jewish families scattered across the world. Their descendants now live in the United States, Israel, and many other countries, yet through family memories, names, photographs and stories, they continue to preserve their connection to Prague and to towns and communities throughout the Czech lands.
We believe that these connections matter not only for our shared past, but, above all, for our shared future. Jewish life in the Czech lands is not merely a memory of what once existed. It is alive, flourishing and growing once again. Every encounter with descendants of Czech Jewish families reminds us that we are part of one great Jewish family, whose bonds have not been broken by borders, oceans or the passage of generations.
We would therefore like to encourage Jewish families and communities around the world with roots in the Czech lands to rediscover their connections to the places their ancestors once called home. Come to the Czech Republic, visit the houses and synagogues connected to your family history, share your stories with us, and experience the vibrant Jewish life that exists here today.
Our community, Ec chajim Praha, is a place where these connections can be renewed, where family memories meet a living Jewish present, and where new friendships and partnerships can develop between Jewish communities across continents.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rabbi Vered Harris and all our friends from Temple B'nai Israel for their visit, for sharing Shabbat with us, and for such an inspiring encounter. We sincerely hope that this will be the beginning of many more opportunities to meet, learn and celebrate Jewish life together.
