🇬🇧 AS MFF UK held a debate on 24.9. during its session with three candidates for the position of rector of Charles University: Prof. .kralickova , Prof. , and Prof. . Topics discussed included university funding, the SIS, and conflicts of interest.
After several hours of debate, a vote was held on the quality of the present candidates, as well as Prof. Michaljevič, who had not expressed interest in participating. The current rector, Prof. Králíčková, received 7 votes in favor, 16 against, and 2 abstentions. Prof. Krištoufek narrowly failed, receiving 12 votes in favor, 11 against, and 2 abstentions, thus not reaching the required majority. The remaining candidates were also unsuccessful, and the Senate therefore adopted no resolutions regarding them.
Prof. had already visited the Senate in June, at which time the Senate expressed a positive opinion of his candidacy.
This was followed by a discussion about a possible nomination, during which the SKAS unanimously expressed its support for Prof. Zima. After a further vote (20 in favor out of 24), the Senate approved his formal nomination, making him the first candidate in several decades to receive such clear support from the MFF Academic Senate.
The rector will be elected by the University Academic Senate of Charles University at its session on October 31, 2025, using a two-round voting system. This will be preceded by a debate with the academic community on October 24, 2025, which you can attend in person or watch online.
