CTBC had the pleasure of visiting the Research Center for Defense Sciences, Economy and Technology (DSET) where we met with Dr. Tsaiying Lu, Director of the Energy Resilience Program.

The meeting was joined by Alejandro Sanz Lara, Chief Strategy and Operations Officer at MATERIÁLOVÝ A METALURGICKÝ VÝZKUM (MMV), and Josef Břoušek, Head of the Department of Vehicles at the Technical University of Liberec, to explore hydrogen solutions and opportunities for Taiwan–Czech cooperation.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to share their expertise, discuss the challenges that hydrogen and other emerging energy solutions could help address, and explore potential areas for collaboration.

The discussion also explored how to make better use of renewable energy, improve heat recovery and utilization, and identify opportunities for collaboration through joint R&D, technology exchange, and connections between industry stakeholders.

We thank Dr. Lu and the DSET team for the valuable exchange. CTBC looks forward to building on these conversations and connecting partners in Taiwan and Czechia to explore practical solutions to shared energy challenges.

🌍 NTU Internship Stories: HiLASE

Welcome to our series, where we highlight the organizations that welcomed students from National Taiwan University through our Internship Program!

This time, we are featuring HiLASE Centre, a Czech research centre specializing in high-power laser technologies, with applications spanning advanced materials processing, industrial research, and emerging space technologies.

During their internships, NTU students had the opportunity to explore different aspects of laser and optical research, engage with new technical concepts, and gain exposure to the work carried out in a specialized research environment. These experiences offered valuable opportunities to connect academic knowledge with practical research, develop new skills, and discover different areas of scientific inquiry.

Beyond the research, students highlighted HiLASE’s rigorous approach to laboratory safety and the welcoming support of colleagues and mentors. A sincere thank you to the HiLASE team for welcoming our students, encouraging their curiosity, and providing an environment where they could learn, explore, and grow beyond their academic comfort zones.

From Sandbox to Scale: How Innovation Policy Can Help Emerging Technologies Reach the Market

Emerging technologies often move faster than the rules designed to govern them. Regulatory sandboxes can provide a controlled environment for testing innovative technologies and business models. But testing is only the first step. What happens after the experiment?

Join us for a Czech–Taiwanese discussion exploring what happens before, during and after a sandbox — from balancing innovation with safety and legal certainty, to learning from experimentation, informing regulatory change, and creating the conditions for technologies to move from testing to real-world adoption.

🌍 NTU Internship Stories: Aveo Engineering Group

Welcome to our series, where we highlight the companies that welcomed students from National Taiwan University through our Internship Program!

This time, we are featuring Aveo Engineering Group, a Czech aerospace technology company specializing in aviation lighting, avionics, UAV systems, and composite structures.

During the internship, the NTU student moved from learning production systems and design standards to independently developing engineering solutions. Her work included the Dark Lab Counterweight project, where she optimized the structure, developed 3D-printed prototypes, and prepared 2D drawings for aluminum manufacturing. She also contributed to the Hercules Drop-In mechanism, exploring ways to make future assembly more efficient.

Beyond the technical experience, the internship gave her a first-hand look at working in a European engineering environment. She developed greater confidence communicating technical needs in English, while experiencing the openness, inclusiveness, and work-life balance of her Czech colleagues.

A sincere thank you to the Aveo Engineering Group team for welcoming our student and giving her the opportunity to turn what she had learned at university into practical aerospace engineering experience.

🌍 NTU Internship Stories: Huld

Welcome to our series, where we highlight the companies that welcomed students from National Taiwan University through our Internship Program!

This time, we are featuring Huld, a technology company designing safe, high-quality and sustainable technologies and software for customers from industry to space.

During their internships, NTU students gained hands-on experience from different perspectives. Software engineering interns worked on On-Board Software (OBSW) for spacecraft, experiencing stages of the development process from requirements and architecture to detailed design and coding. A project management intern supported European Space Agency (ESA) proposals, learning to interpret complex technical specifications and translate them into meaningful project decisions.

Beyond the technical work, the students highlighted Huld’s strong culture of mentorship and collaboration. They were given room to explore, ask questions, and contribute their own perspectives, including students without an engineering background.

A sincere thank you to the entire Huld team for welcoming our students and giving them the opportunity to learn from real projects and experienced professionals.

Last Friday, CTBC was pleased to attend the 2026 NTU Global Talent Cultivation Appreciation Banquet, hosted by National Taiwan University 🎓

As a partner of NTU’s Overseas Internship Program (OIP) – 國際引水人計畫, CTBC has been working with NTU to create international opportunities for students, including the Entrepreneurship in Motion traineeship in Czechia and internship placements with Czech companies.

The banquet was a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow organizations supporting NTU’s global talent development initiatives and to celebrate the partnerships that make international learning experiences possible.

We are grateful to NTU for bringing universities, companies, and international partners together, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration to connect more Taiwanese students with opportunities in the Czech Republic and beyond 🤝

🥟 When people in Taiwan hear “dumpling,” they usually picture soup dumplings or fried potstickers. But in the Czech Republic, traditional Knedlíky are a whole different story!

Made from flour, bread, or potatoes, these fluffy, steamed bread-like dumplings are cooked from scratch to soak up rich, savory gravies. Unlike Taiwan’s bustling street food culture on every corner, traditional Czech cuisine centers around hearty, comforting, homemade recipes passed down through generations.

The best part? You don’t need to go abroad to taste it! ✈️

Tucked in a cozy lane in Taipei, Divadlo 捷克餐酒館 (捷克公寓) is an authentic Czech bistro. They serve traditional Central European comfort food—from tender Goulash and Svíčková (beef sirloin with cream sauce and knedlíky) to cold-poured Ferdinand draught b**r 🍺

SMEs may be called “small,” but they represent more than 98% of enterprises in Taiwan and 99.9% in Central and Eastern Europe. They do much of the heavy lifting in our economies.

SME digitalization can sometimes sound rather abstract, so our webinar focused on what it actually means in practice. Together, Dr. I-Chang Tsai from Chung Yuan Christian University, Svetoslav Minchev, PMP from the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Alice Rezková from the CTBC (Czech Taiwanese Business Chamber) explored concrete ways to help smaller companies work smarter.

From Taiwan’s digital vouchers and sector-specific AI training to shared cybersecurity monitoring in CEE, the discussion showed that digital tools work best when they solve a specific problem. Spending less time on paperwork, detecting cyber threats earlier, training employes more effectively. Just name it. Digitalization should make running a business easier. Not simply give SMEs another password to remember.

Many thanks to our speakers and to everyone who joined the conversation across Taiwan and Europe!
