With our YWAM volunteer team yesterday, collecting our marvellous Moringa leaves to dry, powder or simply eat raw on salads or cooked like Sathia did here. You can contact us as we are happy to give a workshop about cooking and understanding the moringa tree. It's an amazing tree, a super food and so useful during the hot summer to replenish lost iron, vitamin C and much more.

Hello supporters LR! We are going to need more SUITCASES & TRAVEL BAGS this week. 2 families ( I should say women and children) are returning soon to Syria. It's not been a happy return for a number of our mums, some have been sent home whilst the husbands remarry here. For us its not good news if some of our girls are not been schooled anymore, but married off, no choice back in Syria, a place they did not grow up. We would like to protect some of our women but we have lost several of our female syrian friends this year. A few very brave women have escaped, their courage is astounding ! Pray for the Women please. Bless this Filmstar who arrived today in full glamour!!

During these hot days, we are making work a bit more enjoyable by visiting Paphos Old Town market, getting inspiration from fabrics, styles and local sights as part of our sewing team's learning tasks. If you have a tailors dummy, please donate it to us!

We enjoyed good company and learned a lot with Mrs Sathia, our sewing teacher, today. Working with CCIF Youth NGO to promote women's learning and cottage industry skills with a bit of marketing mixed in! A 5 week course teaching basic pattern making, machine competency, branding and...confidence. https://www.ccifcyprus.com/

When leading charities and government services don't react in time or send people to the Learning Refuge for aid, it is evidence of the power of volunteering in the community. However it's incredibly difficult and often totally beyond our experience for an Association of volunteers to manage this type of work, especially when we do not receive any significant help from official sources. It is still you, the community, the public who have kept us going. It is time that we get the help we need , but it's evident that people in bigger organisations and flashier jobs are very good at ignoring us. This dependance on the goodwill of caring, ordinary people to quietly continue doing the 'dirty work' in society - is shortsighted and careless. We hope that our efforts to get support from bigger players in Paphos, to keep our house open as long as people need help....anyone in local politics with an ounce of sense should see the advantages of lending the Learning Refuge a hand, before you are left with no place for people in need to go.
Enjoy art by Ahmad, inspired by our recent trip to Limassols gallery Link68.

Good Morning Learning Refuge Friends, we have another homeless situation, a British gentleman living in a temporary, unequipped room who will lose this space very soon. He still cannot access support and needs more regular food and help for medicines. He is looking for a room and is determined to find work himself. Can you help? We are really stretched ourselves and we now seem to be the 1st place that people in need contact in these situations because we listen and try to respond fast. However It's a lot for us to cope not just with foods but the other difficulties in such stories. As you can imagine its hard for us to run lessons and other activities when our resources are redirected into housing, welfare and social issues. Under pressure....

We enjoyed meeting Elena Tzioritzi at her exhibition at Link 68 Gallery in Limassol last night. Her paintings are sometimes whimsical and symbolic, bursting with colours and natural forms...and she has kindly pledged to support our work at the Learning Refuge. You must visit the exhibition which continues until Monday, in the Castle Square right in the heart of Old Limassol. Thankyou Link 68 and Elena Tziortzi

Dear friends in Paphos, we've met a mature man, English, who has fallen on hard times after many years running a business here..in his own words- 'handyman, pool technician, clean, quiet, can drive'. He has spent a few days on the street, and Welfare have temporarily given him a hostel stay... but it won't be for long. So he needs to quickly find a room to rent. We are providing food, a bus pass and we promised to post his request for help seeking a small, cheaper room anywhere in the city. Please share and help...if you can help with the bus pass or extra foods (he has no access to cooking facilities) we would be grateful. Mostly he needs help looking for a room or studio with a contract.
