📣Cyprus is one of the most important nesting regions of the Green and Loggerhead sea turtles in the Mediterranean Sea.

📣They nest mainly at Lara-Toxeftra reserve and at Chrysochou Bay's beach line.

🆘 👉Based on guidelines issued from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, If you would like to be part of this magical moment then make sure to:

🐢Observe from distance
🐢Do not touch them
🐢Do not feed them
🐢Avoid flash photography
🐢Reduce light conditions if in close proximity at night. Light disorient the turtlings.

📣Η Κύπρος είναι μια από τις σημαντικότερες περιοχές φωλεοποίησης της Πράσινης χελώνας αλλά και της Καρέτα στη Μεσόγειο Θάλασσα.

📣Φωλιάζουν κυρίως στη περιοχή Λάρα-Τοξεύτρα και σε παραλίες του κόλπου Χρυσοχού.

🆘👉Με βάση τις κατευθυντήριες γραμμές του Τμήματος Αλιείας και Θαλασσίων Ερευνών, μπορείτε να βιώσετε αυτή τη μοναδική και μαγική στιγμή φτάνει να:

🐢παρατηρείτε από απόσταση
🐢μην τα αγγίζετε
🐢μην τα ταΐζετε
🐢αποφεύγετε τη φωτογράφηση με φλας
🐢μειώνετε το φωτισμό εάν βρίσκεστε σε κοντινή απόσταση τη νύχτα. Το φως αποπροσανατολίζει τα χελωνάκια.

The semi-submerged sea caves in Cyprus are ideal habitats for the Mediterranean Monk seal, Monachus monachus. Monk seals use these as resting and nursery areas, thus makes them quite important for the conservation of this critically endangered species‼️

It’s only natural to be curious about these habitats so:

🔹Approach with caution! 🦭
🔹Immediately exit the sea cave if a monk seal is sighted in.
🔹Avoid entering during the breeding season, Sep-Nov.

Τα ημιβυθισμένα θαλάσσια σπήλαια στην Κύπρο είναι ιδανικοί βιότοποι για τη Μεσογειακή φώκια Μοναχό, Monachus monachus. Τα χρησιμοποιούν ως χώρους ξεκούρασης αλλά και φροντίδας των νεογνών τους, γεγονός που τα καθιστά πολύ σημαντικούς οικοτόπους για τη διατήρηση αυτού του, προς εξαφάνιση, είδους‼️

Είναι φυσικό να είμαστε περίεργοι αντικρίζοντας τις εισόδους αυτών των οικοτόπων, οπότε:

🔹Προσεγγίστε με προσοχή! 🦭
🔹Βγείτε άμεσα από τη σπηλιά εάν αντιληφθείτε μέσα την παρουσία μιας φώκιας.
🔹Αποφύγετε την είσοδο κατά την αναπαραγωγική περίοδο, Σεπτέμβρη-Νοέμβρη.

🦈 Sharks have been in our oceans for over 400 million years.

🦈 There are over 500 species of shark.

🦈 The largest species of shark is the whaleshark and its diet consists of plankton and small fish.

🦈 A shark has six senses: vision, taste, smell, hearing, touch and electro-reception.

🦈 Sharks constantly shed their teeth and grow new ones.

🦈 97% of all sharks are harmless to humans due to their size and teeth.

🦈 Shark to shark communication takes place through body language such as arching their backs and lowering their fins.

🦈 Sharks experience a wide range of emotions, like fear, anger and curiosity.

🦈 Shark skin feels like sandpaper.

🦈 Sharks only eat about 2% of their body weight.

🦈 143 shark species are under threat and are listed by the IUCN from vulnerable to critically endangered.

🦈 An estimated 100 million sharks are killed by fisheries every year.

🦈 Shark attacks are actually very uncommon and lightning strikes are considered more deadly.

🦈 Human deaths caused by hippos, deers and cows are more common than shark attacks.
