Edition #36

Edition #36 is an unfinished manga story featuring Isabella Brunskill’s drawings from the old town of Nicosia. Her drawing series Geographical Timestamps is a visual inquiry into how natural and urban space carry traces of memory, unity, and resistance.

Samvel Simonyants was frequently asked, “What do you think about Cypriot wine?” yet always found himself unable to give a clear answer. His reflection on the topic, in an attempt to answer this question, is divided into three chapters. Chapter 1: Landscape, Given explores the landscape and geology of the island while offering a parallel reflection on the scientific dimension and the idea of the body as a given vessel (carrier) of the traces of the past. Call for Submissions: Delivering Views – Delivering Text #38 - Notes on Cypriot food

Phaneromenis 70 is inviting submissions for an upcoming edition of our Delivering Views – Delivering Text series. We are working with Loukia Constantinou - a London-based, award-winning Cypriot food writer on this new publication that will be a collaborative work exploring the ways that Cypriot food connects us to our histories, families, communities, and the island itself.


What we are looking for:
We welcome original written work that explores the significance of Cypriot food and food culture, particularly within the diaspora.
Possible themes include:

How food connects us to Cyprus and to one another
Food memories and personal anecdotes
Migration, identity, and belonging through food
Food traditions, celebrations, and rituals
Family recipes and the stories behind them
The role of food in preserving culture across generations
We are interested in a range of formats, including:

Essays
Recipes
Poetry
Short stories
Other creative non-fiction or literary work

*Submissions may also include photographs to accompany the written work.*

Who can submit?
We encourage submissions from people across all of Cyprus' diverse communities and the wider diaspora.

Language:
All submissions must be written in English. Selected pieces will be translated and published in English, Greek and Turkish.

Guidelines:

Longer form written pieces can be up to 1,500 words maximum
Submissions should be sent via email: [email protected]
Photographs may be included alongside written submissions.
If you would like to discuss an idea before submitting, please feel free to get in touch.

Selection:
Six pieces will be selected for publication.
The authors of the six selected submissions will each receive €100 for their contribution.

Εδώ και έξι μήνες, συναντιόμαστε στο Phaneromenis 70 μέσα από το Wandering & Wondering, στο πλαίσιο του Delivering Views – Delivering Texts.

Μέσα από περιπάτους, συζητήσεις και γραφή, μοιραζόμαστε εμπειρίες και ιστορίες γύρω από τη ζωή, την κίνηση και το αίσθημα του ανήκειν στην Κύπρο.

Περισσότερες πληροφορίες για το πρότζεκτ μπορείτε να βρείτε στον σύνδεσμο πιο κάτω. Σύντομα θα κυκλοφορήσει και η έντυπη έκδοσή του, συγκεντρώνοντας στιγμές, σκέψεις και διαδρομές από αυτούς τους έξι μήνες.

For the past six months, we have been gathering at Phaneromenis 70 through Wandering & Wondering, as part of Delivering Views – Delivering Texts.

Through walks, conversations, and writing, we have shared experiences and stories about life, movement, and belonging in Cyprus.

Wandering & Wondering
A series of workshops on writing, exploring and creating

Phaneromenis70 hosts Wandering & Wondering, a series of sessions taking place throughout the project in collaboration with Tune In. The workshops invite participants to contribute their own voices, stories, and perspectives through writing, photography, reflection, and collective exchange, shaping both shared and individual understandings of life in Cyprus.

Wandering & Wondering takes place within the framework of Delivering Views / Texts, a programme focusing on personal narratives and on representations shaped by lived experience and the idea of Cyprus as a temporary home.
