European Day of Languages 🗺️
What a fantastic celebration at our Confucius Institute!
We celebrated linguistic diversity together.
Visitors experienced Chinese calligraphy — painting characters with ink and brushes.
The beautiful sound of the Guzheng (Chinese zither) filled the space, showing the charm of Chinese culture.
Languages connect people across borders. Every language is a unique treasure.
Thank you to all guests, teachers and volunteers who joined our celebration.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, celebrates the autumn harvest, family reunions, and giving thanks under the brightest and fullest moon of the year. As one of the most important traditional festivals in China, Mid-Autumn is an official public holiday. In 2026, the festival falls on September 25th.

🥮 The round shape of the full moon symbolizes completeness and family unity, while traditional celebrations honor ancient legends such as Chang’e, the goddess of the moon. 🏮🌙

A special time to gather with loved ones, give thanks, share mooncakes, and celebrate together. 💛

On 7 September 2026, the Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus had the honour of welcoming H.E. Mr. Yang Yundong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Cyprus, together with Mr. Zhang Ning, Head of the Political Section, and Mr. Liang Yingli, Attaché of the Political Section, from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cyprus. During his visit, H.E. Ambassador Yang met with the teachers of the Confucius Institute, as well as with some of our students, providing an opportunity for meaningful exchange and discussion.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus is accepting registrations for Chinese Language Courses – Fall Semester 2026!
Courses are available for different levels, including HSK 1 (Hybrid – online and in person), HSK 1.4, HSK 3, HSK 3.2, HSK 4.2, HSK 4.6 (Hybrid – online and in person), HSK 5.7, as well as YCT 3 for young learners.
📅 Registration: 18 August – 6 September 2026

From 28–29 May 2026, Associate Professor Wang Zhenxian, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at UCY, attended the "𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞", in Naples, Italy.

Organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, the symposium brought together around 30 scholars, Chinese language educators, and Confucius Institute representatives from across Europe to exchange ideas on the localized use, adaptation, and development of Chinese language teaching materials. Discussions covered topics including AI and textbook development, country-specific teaching practices, Chinese for Specific Purposes, and the adaptation of teaching resources in different European contexts.

During the symposium, Associate Professor Wang Zhenxian presented on the development of localized Business Chinese teaching materials for Cyprus. His presentation highlighted the need for teaching resources that reflect Cyprus's multilingual environment, service-oriented economy, and role as a bridge between Europe and China. He also proposed a dual-track textbook model combining Business Chinese language skills with Chinese business culture, together with innovative digital and AI-supported teaching resources tailored to the needs of university students, professionals, and businesses.

The event provided a valuable platform for academic exchange, international collaboration, and the sharing of best practices in Chinese language education across Europe.

From 29 June to 5 July 2026, the China–Cyprus Sports & Cultural Exchange in Cyprus 🥋 brought together more than 60 participants at the University of Cyprus for an inspiring journey into the world of Wushu. Co-organised by the Confucius Institute at the University of Cyprus, AIBO (Academy for International Business Officials), and the Cyprus Wushu Federation, the programme offered a unique opportunity to explore the philosophy, values, and practice of Wushu while celebrating a rich aspect of Chinese cultural heritage. Through shared learning, movement 🤸‍♂️, and cultural exchange 🌏, participants strengthened their confidence 💪, well-being 🧘, and self-awareness, while building meaningful friendships and reinforcing the growing connection between Cyprus and China! 🇨🇳🇨🇾
