Youth Power: Shaping Our Future Youth Power is a network of 12 diverse, Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot organizations that promote or affiliate with youth activism. The E.U.C.

PeacePlayers International (PPI) is an innovative global organization that uses sport to unite and educate young people in divided communities. PeacePlayers International was founded in 2001 by Sean Tuohey, on the premise that “children who play together can learn to live together.” The organization currently

operates programs in Northern Ireland, South Africa, Cyprus, and in the Middle East, bringing together thousands of children to form positive relationships, develop leadership skills, and improve their future. Over the past eight years, the organization has worked with over 45,000 children. In 1998 a group of young people decided to set up a new organization that was independent, democratic and modern; an organization appealing to the youth. Its main aims are: to offer knowledge and new ideas to the youth, to reinforce the ideals of good citizenship and to raise awareness on environmental issues. Soma Akriton pursues 5 areas of interest: Nature Exploration, Protection of the environment, Civil Defence, Personal Growth, General knowledge. The last 7 years, Some Akriton also focuses on issues like racism, peace building and bi-communal activities. Environmental Studies Centre www.esc.com.cy
The Environmental Studies Centre (E.S.C.) has been running since 1995 for the purpose of providing practical Environmental Education, and now welcomes about 3.500 students a year from the schools and universities of Cyprus, Western Europe and the Middle East. The great diversity of plant and animal life in the region where the ESC is situated makes it an ideal place in which to study the natural environment. The Centre offers a wide choice of educational programmes, e.g. forest and freshwater ecology, landscape processes, and the impact of tourist development on the environment, as well as teamwork and general outdoor activities. HASDER Folk Arts Association was founded in 1977 with the objective of researching, spreading and enriching Cypriot folklore. The association aims to be a modern, progressive and democratic foundation which opposes segregation of race, religion, culture and gender with a consciousness of social responsibility while giving equal importance to the principles of volunteerism and professionalism. The desire is to educate the society of Cyprus and organize activities regarding folklore, culture, arts and crafts, the environment, citizenship and consumer rights, in parallel with the constantly expanding and improving civil movements around the world. KAYAD is a women’s organization working in the field of community development. Established in 1997, KAYAD Community Centre, is the first of its kind in the Turkish Cypriot community, submitting activities since 2001. KAYAD aims to support grassroots initiatives by empowering women, strengthening families and providing skills to the youth, sustaining their development. It is a community based walk-in centre, which offers lectures, seminars, workshops, group support, guidance coaching, counselling, rehabilitation, training and advocacy. Mediation Association
Mediation Association’s mission is to develop and spread the “WIN-WIN” philosophy of mediation by empowering the Turkish and Greek Cypriots to establish meaningful relationships through effective communication skills, tolerance and understanding. Mediation Association recognizes the power of mediation as a way of resolving conflicts, developing reconciliation, mutual understanding, tolerance, decreasing and even eliminating the wide variety of prejudice faced daily and on all levels of the community. Mediation Association aims to provide mediation services to all levels of the community, to provide training, workshops, and seminars to the public, to develop projects in order to benefit the various sections of the community, as well as to attract, develop, and maintain the volunteer force for the association. International Center for Sport Research and Development (ICSRD)
Formerly known as Doves Olympic Movement (www.dovesolympicmovement.com) ICSRD is an educational sports initiative based on the philosophy and principles of the Olympic Movement. The program rests on the idea that Olympism can be used as a useful tool for personal growth and development. ICSRD uses sports as a tool towards achieving the following educational objectives: learning of fundamental values and human rights, facilitating personal and societal development, promoting peace-building and global citizenship, raising environmental awareness, developing long-lasting friendship, enhancing multicultural interaction, facilitating understanding and collaboration among cross cultural and diverse populations, developing conflict management and problem solving skills, and increasing technology skills. ADD-ADHD Cyprus is a voluntary organization, supporting people with Attention Deficit Disorder with/without Hyperactivity (ADD/ ADHD) and their families. Its members include parents, teachers, doctors, and specialists. The mission of the organization is to improve the lives of all those affected by AD/HD by offering support, information, education and advocacy so that it may fulfill the vision of an empowered and integrated AD/HD community. The organization’s goals are to advocate on behalf of adults and children with ADD/ADHD, in order to ensure that they are aware of their rights, and to support them and their families by providing information and skills to help them succeed in the home, in school and at work. University of Nicosia Research Foundation www.unrf.ac.cy
The University of Nicosia Research Foundation (UNRF) is a non-profit research organization that studies a wide range of areas, such as social sciences, economics, technology, information technology, health etc. Its research staff has substantial experience in the management of research projects, funded by the European Union and the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation. The E.U.C. Research Center Ltd is the evolution of the former Cyprus College/ EUC Research Centre and since April 2008 it functions as an independent, private and non profit making organization. Research Center Ltd is one of the leading research institutions in Cyprus, widely known due to its significant success in conducting innovative research. During the last six years, its personnel and associates under the Cyprus College/ EUC Research Centre have developed important action in a wide research spectrum of ICT, Business, Socioeconomic Sciences, Health Sciences and Humanities through coordination and participation in national, international and E.U funded research programs. The Frederick Research Center (FRC) is a leading research non-profit organization in Cyprus. The Centre operates at a privately owned three-storey building, covering an area of 2000 square meters, and contains a contemporary lab infrastructure and a library with access to scientific journals. The members of the FRC academic staff are highly qualified, have long experience in the implementation of independent and high quality research and have to demonstrate a rich publication record. FRC has participated in projects funded by the UNDP, the European Union, the Research Promotion Foundation and others. The mission of the centre is to explore and utilize the evolution of information and communication technologies to strengthen the process of peace‐building and civic education, and to disseminate and promote the principles of Human Rights, Tolerance and Diversity. The centre operates a number of units such as the Humanitarian Affairs Unit, the Unit for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture, the Global Education Unit and the New Media Lab Unit In addition to research projects, the centre supports the Safer Internet Awareness Centre with a hotline and helpline.
