New Tales from Mednight and MEDNIGHT TV content for the 20th European Researchers’ Night
Brussels, September 3
The Mediterranean Researchers’ Night (Mednight) marks the 20th anniversary of the European Researchers’ Night with the release of the 5th edition of the Tales from Mednight and the launch of new content on MEDNIGHT TV. These initiatives, which have become established pillars of Mednight’s science outreach, return this summer with new stories and audiovisual productions that expand the project’s cultural and educational impact across the Mediterranean. The Tales from Mednight series brings research closer to society through fourteen new science fables that transform scientific ideas into imaginative short stories for all audiences. Meanwhile, MEDNIGHT TV, the online science channel, expands its reach with new documentaries, interviews, and educational programs designed to connect Mediterranean research with audiences everywhere. Its catalogue now features around 100 new videos covering MEDNIGHT’s diverse fields, alongside online training modules for researchers, the Young Researchers at Schools Meeting, and inspiring student projects showcased at the Mediterranean Science Fairs.
From France, the Tales from Mednight include three original stories: Le Moine d’Ithaque by Joséphine Cristol, Ensemble avec les palourdes by Sylvie Lapègue, and Lucas et la légende de Lattara by Caroline Delaire. On MEDNIGHT TV, French institutions have also enriched the program with new videos. Genopolys presents “nos ateliers scientifiques sur les environnements extrêmes et les organismes qui y vivent !”, inviting audiences to explore science workshops on extreme environments and the organisms that inhabit them. Meanwhile, the University Hospital of Toulouse (CHU Toulouse) has produced a series of short portraits featuring women in science, Elodie Chantalat, Virginie Woisard, Morgane Espitalier, and Françoise Auriol, showcasing how, as teachers, engineers, and physicians, they are “tackling today’s challenges to shape the research of tomorrow”.
These initiatives serve as an awareness campaign for the main celebration on September 26, 2025. On this date, nearly 800 researchers will engage directly with an expected audience of more than 15,000 people across cities from seven countries: Almería, Madrid, Elche, Orihuela, Verdegás, Tabarca and Alicante in Spain; Toulouse and Montpellier in France; Messina in Italy; Xanthi, Lesvos, Lemnos, Samos, Chios, Syros, Rhodes in Greece; Nicosia in Cyprus; Monastir in Tunisia and Istanbul in Turkey. Funded by the European Commission through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of Horizon Europe, Mednight is part of the wider European Researchers’ Night, which this year unites more than 460 cities across the continent and celebrates its 20th anniversary.
