🌿 OPU Family Hike: Vavla Village 🌄

Get ready for an exciting hike this Saturday (16/05) on the scenic Panagia tis Agapis chapel trail! The hike will take place at Vavla village, a perfect warm up for the body and the soul, just before the Vavla musical walk festival.

Hike Details:

📍Location: Vavla village

🌲The Trail: Panagia tis Agapis Chapel trail 💕 (Ditch Tinder, come to the hike!)

🧒🏻🐶 Accessibility: Kid-friendly and pet-friendly!

📏 Length: 5.7km, elevation gain: 100m

Nicosia has a hidden gem and it’s time the whole city took notice.

The Pediaios River Linear Park is one of the most underutilised yet powerful urban assets in the Cypriot capital. Stretching across the heart of the city, this green corridor already offers residents a rare escape from traffic: a place to walk, cycle, run, and breathe. But its true potential goes far beyond what it is today.

In this video, we explore what the Pediaios corridor means for Nicosia right now and more importantly, what it could become. Imagine a continuous commuting route that connects neighbourhoods, parks, schools, and cultural landmarks across the city. A network where cycling and walking are not just recreational choices, but genuine, everyday alternatives to the car.

We look at how cities around the world have transformed similar green corridors into vibrant mobility spines and why Nicosia has every reason to follow suit. With the infrastructure improvements needed, the low-traffic neighbourhood principles that could extend the corridor’s reach and the connections to key city landmarks and old hubs, that would make this vision a reality.

This is not just a story about a park. It’s a conversation about the kind of city Nicosia wants to be more liveable, more connected and more sustainable for the generations that will inherit it.
