Why is PROTECT needed?
Digital tools, online platforms, and social media are now central to youth work and education. From registrations and mobility projects to online events and social media engagement, personal data is constantly collected, shared, and stored.

Although the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been in force since 2018, many youth organisations and young people face significant challenges.

PROTECT was created to bridge this gap and make data protection
understandable, practical, and relevant for young people.

Why is GDPR important in early years?
In early years education, GDPR is essential for safeguarding the personal details of young children, their parents, and the staff. These settings manage a lot of sensitive data, like health records and development assessments. GDPR sets out the rules to ensure this data is handled in a legal, secure, and clear way.

Providers need to get clear consent for using data and must protect it from unauthorized access. Following GDPR not only protects this sensitive information but also helps build trust with families, showing that their privacy and data security are taken seriously.
