Three days of performances, encounters and movement across different spaces in Limassol came to a close last night.

Το Remembrance: Crystal Tears επαναπροσδιορίζει το γυναικείο πένθος ως μια κοσμική δύναμη αναγέννησης και συνέχειας. Ένα και μόνο δάκρυ εμπεριέχει πλήθη· ένα έθνος, μια γενεαλογική γραμμή, ένα ποτάμι από ονόματα που χάθηκαν. Η περφόρμανς μετατρέπεται σε έναν ενσώματο θρήνο, όπου η μνήμη δεν ανακαλείται απλώς, αλλά αποκτά σώμα, ρευστότητα και ιερότητα. Η μνήμη εκτείνεται πέρα από το ανθρώπινο, συμπεριλαμβάνοντας το νερό, τη γη, τους πλανήτες και τα μη ανθρώπινα όντα ως μάρτυρες και φορείς της. Το πένθος διαπερνά είδη, στοιχεία και κόσμους. Τα δάκρυα γίνονται ταυτόχρονα θρήνος και σπόρος, συνδέοντας άρρηκτα την απώλεια με την επιβίωση.

Το Remembrance: Crystal Tears θέτει τα ερωτήματα: Πώς μπορούν το πένθος, η έκσταση και η τρέλα να επαναδιεκδικηθούν ως πρακτικές αυτενέργειας και αντίστασης; Τι σημαίνει το πένθος να μην αποτελεί μόνο μια ιδιωτική εμπειρία, αλλά μια συλλογική πράξη μνήμης και γνώσης;

Remembrance: crystal tears reframes female grief as a cosmic force of renewal and continuity. A single tear holds multitudes, a nation, a lineage, a river of lost names. The performance becomes an embodied lamentation, where memory is not only recalled but made physical, fluid, and sacred. It extends beyond the human, holding water, land, planets, and non-human beings as witnesses and carriers of memory, suggesting that grief moves across species, elements, and worlds. Tears become both lament and seed, where grief and survival are intertwined.

Remembrance: Crystal Tears asks: how can grief, trance, and madness be reclaimed as practices of agency and resistance? What does it mean for grief to be not only private, but a shared act of remembrance and knowledge?

Σε αυτή την περφόρμανς-διάλεξη, η Αριάνα Μαρκουλίδου μοιράζεται την έρευνά της σχετικά με τα πουλιά, το κελάηδισμά τους, τα μεταναστευτικά τους πρότυπα και τις πηγές έμπνευσης που διαμορφώνουν την καλλιτεχνική της πρακτική.
«Υπάρχει κάτι στα πουλιά που πάντα με γοήτευε. Ως παιδί, το να τα βλέπω να ωθούν το σώμα τους στην πτήση μού έδινε την αίσθηση της πιο αγνής μορφής ελευθερίας. Ακόμα και σήμερα, όταν ακούω τους μεταναστευτικούς επισκέπτες να περνούν από κοντά, σταματώ ό,τι κι αν κάνω για να τους χαιρετήσω.» (Arianna). Η περφόρμανς πραγματεύεται την επικοινωνία - είτε μέσω του λόγου, της κίνησης ή του τραγουδιού - με άτομα κωφά, βαρήκοα, τυφλά ή με προβλήματα όρασης, καθώς και τη διαειδική επικοινωνία.
*Όλες οι κινήσεις και τα οπτικά στοιχεία περιγράφονται λεκτικά με σκόπιμο τρόπο, ώστε όσοι δεν μπορούν να τα δουν να είναι σε θέση να τα οπτικοποιήσουν. Όλοι οι ήχοι περιγράφονται και εμφανίζονται σε υπέρτιτλους για όσους δεν μπορούν να ακούσουν.

In this lecture performance, Arianna Marcoulides shares years of research on birds, birdsong, migratory patterns, and the inspirations shaping her artistic practice.
“There’s something about birds that has always fascinated me. As a child, watching them propel their bodies in flight felt like the purest form of freedom. To this day, when I hear migrating visitors passing through, I pause whatever I’m doing to greet them.” (Arianna). The performance is about communication either through speech, movement, or song with people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, and even with inter-species communication.

*All the movement and visuals are purposefully verbalized so that those who can't see it can visualize it. All sounds are described and appear in surtitles for those who cannot hear.
