YoungShip Cyprus YoungShip is a professional non-profit organisation for young people working within the global maritime industry.

YoungShip Cyprus was founded in 2012 as a branch of YoungShip International (Norway 2004) which is a non-profit organization in 17 cities around the world in countries such as Norway, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, United Emirates, Kenya and the United Kingdom. Young people up to the age of 40 who work in the wider field of shipping and maritime offshore industry have the opportunity to participate as members or as administration of the association.

Today, YoungShip Cyprus had the opportunity to participate in the UN Youth Engagement event organized by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) within the UN Protected Area in Nicosia.

The event brought together youth organizations from across Cyprus for meaningful discussions on peacebuilding, intercommunal cooperation, and the role of young people in shaping a more connected future. Participants also visited the historic Nicosia International Airport and engaged with UN representatives on ongoing initiatives across the island.

We would like to thank the UNFICYP team for organizing this valuable experience and for creating a space that encouraged dialogue, collaboration, and new connections among young people from across Cyprus.

YoungShip Cyprus was invited to participate in the conference “Investing in Seafarers: Securing the Future of Global Shipping”, organized by the Shipping Deputy Ministry of Cyprus / ΥΦΥΝ.

A key highlight of the event was the Recognition Ceremony honoring Capt. Panagiotis N. Tsakos, founder of Tsakos Shipping and Trading S.A., for his lifetime contribution to global shipping and education.

Our Vice President, Lefteris Charalambous, shared a personal reflection on this special occasion:

💬Last week, I had the privilege of attending this inspiring event—but for me, the highlight was something deeply personal.

Reuniting with Capt. Panagiotis Tsakos, brought back where my own journey at sea began.

I served on four of his vessels as a Junior Officer, and one moment has always stayed with me: during an early visit to the office, he remembered my name—even though I was just starting out.

Years later, what amazes me most is this: he still remembers me.

That’s leadership.

Not just building ships or companies—but valuing people. Seeing potential early. Making others feel they matter.

This is exactly why investing in seafarers is so important—not only for the future of our industry, but for the people within it.

A powerful reminder that behind every successful shipping story, there are people who make the difference. ⚓
