Open House Festival The Open House Festival will return in Limassol streets and stages from October 2nd to the 4th for its 17th edition.

Η Στέγη Χορού Λεμεσού διοργανώνει για 12η χρονιά το Open House. Το Open House θα πραγματοποιηθεί από τις 1-3 Οκτωβρίου 2021 και θα φιλοξενήσει έργα σύγχρονου χορού και περφόρμανς από την εγχώρια και διεθνή σκηνή. Το πρόγραμμα του Φεστιβάλ είναι σχεδιασμένο - όπως και τις προηγούμενες χρονιές- για να προσφέρει μια ‘ανοιχτή’ εμπειρία στο κοινό με έργα που προτείνουν μέσα από τις θεματικές τους μία σύγχρονη ματιά ως προς τη χορογραφική/καλλιτεχνική δημιουργία.
Οι καλλιτέχνες που συμμετέχουν στο πρόγραμμα καλλιτεχνικής ανάπτυξης της Στέγης Xορού Λεμεσού Moving the New, έχουν την ευκαιρία να παρουσιάσουν το έργο/την ιδέα που εξελίσσουν στο πλαίσιο του φεστιβάλ.
Το Φεστιβάλ στηρίζεται και επιχορηγείται από τις Πολιτιστικές Υπηρεσίες του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού και έχει λάβει το EFFE Label 2019-2020. Πρόκειται για τη σφραγίδα ποιότητας της Ευρώπης για αξιόλογα φεστιβάλ τέχνης.

Dance House Lemesos organizes for the 12th year the Open House. The Open House will be held from 1-3 October and it will present works of contemporary dance and performance from the local and international scene. This year's festival programme is curated to offer an 'open' experience to the public with works that suggest through their themes a sharper look in choreographic creation. The identity of Open House Festival is rather innovative and daring and the invited works propose- though their themes and concepts- a more current approach in relation to human condition and the multiple narratives of the ‘body’. Moreover the festival’s programme aims in broadening the perception and the understanding in relation to artistic making and the creative practices of choreography and performing arts in general. The Festival is been supported and funded by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and it received the EFFE Label 2019-2020, Europe’s quality stamp for remarkable arts festivals

Η Mesaoría είναι μία σύνθεση πολλαπλών δημιουργικών πρακτικών γύρω από την περφόρμανς - ήχος, βίντεο, φως και σώμα διαμορφώνουν μια ενιαία ζωντανή εγκατάσταση μέσα στο NeMe Arts Center. Αναφέρεται σε μια περιοχή της κεντρικής Κύπρου, που εκτείνεται ανάμεσα στην οροσειρά του Πενταδακτύλου και του Τροόδους, και σε έναν τόπο που σηματοδοτείται από τη διέλευση της Πράσινης Γραμμής.
Το έργο παρουσιάζει τη διαδικασία καλλιέργειας της γης και της γεωργικής δραστηριότητας σε ένα ιδιωτικό χωράφι εντός της νεκρής ζώνης. Σαν μεγεθυντικός φακός, αποκαλύπτει τη σιωπή που επικρατεί στην απαγορευμένη περιοχή, τον ήχο της φύσης της και τον απόηχο της πλησιέστερης πόλης. Ο χώρος μεταμορφώνεται σε καταγεγραμμένες εμπειρίες από καθημερινές επισκέψεις σε αυτή τη γη, που έχουν αρχειοθετηθεί, με στόχο τη δημιουργία ενός διεπιστημονικού περιβάλλοντος. Ο καλλιτέχνης επηρεασμένος από το ασύμβατο στρατιωτικό παρελθόν του που διευρύνεται μέχρι σήμερα, επικρίνει στη δουλειά του πώς η στρατικοποίηση στο νησί λειτουργεί ως μια αποστασιοποιητική δύναμη έναντι στην ευαλωτότητα του ανάμεσα.

Mesaoría is a compound of multiple creative disciplines around performance - sound, video, light, and body create the configuration of one extensive live installation within the NeMe Arts Center. It refers to an area in central Cyprus situated between the mountain chain of Pendaktylos and Troodos, and it is a place signified by the crossing of the Green Line.
The work itself exhibits the process of land cultivation and farming on a private land inside the buffer zone. As a magnifying glass, it reveals the silence found in the restricted area, the sound of its nature, and the nearest city’s echo.
The venue is transformed into recorded experiences from daily visits to this land that have been archived to develop an interdisciplinary setting. The artist, influenced by his unconventional military past, which extends into this day, criticizes in his work how militarism on the island functions as a distancing force against the vulnerability of the in-between.

Ένα σώμα ακινητοποιημένο σαν φιγούρα εικονογραφίας, παίρνει την μορφή ενός εκτεταμένου παλμού. Τα χέρια επεκτείνονται από το στήθος στα αυτιά και μια τελετουργική διαπραγμάτευση του πεδίου όπου η ύλη συναντά το πνεύμα εξελίσσεται. Αντλώντας από μυστικιστικούς συμβολισμούς και διαλογιστικές πρακτικές, ο Γιώργος Μπίζιος διερευνά την καρδιά σαν πηγή αντοχής και το σώμα σαν τόπο μετάβασης, προτείνοντας μια αλχημική άσκηση αντίστασης σε οτιδήποτε δεν είναι αγάπη.

An anchored body evoking iconographic imagery takes the form of a perpetual pulse. The hands extend from the chest to the ears and back again, tracing an invisible threshold between matter and spirit. Drawing on mystical symbolism and meditative practices, Giorgos Bizios explores the heart as a source of resilience and the body as a site of transition, proposing an alchemical exercise in resistance against anything that is not love.

Η φετινή διοργάνωση φέρνει κοντά καλλιτέχνες από την Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό, παρουσιάζοντας έργα που κινούνται ανάμεσα στο προσωπικό και το συλλογικό, τη μνήμη, το μέλλον & την πολιτική πραγματικότητα. Μέσα από τον χορό, την περφόρμανς, τη μουσική και το lecture performance, οι δημιουργοί αναζητούν νέους τρόπους να μιλήσουν για την απώλεια, την ανθεκτικότητα, τον εκτοπισμό και τη συλλογική εμπειρία.

Από τελετουργίες πένθους και συλλογικής αντίστασης μέχρι αφηγήσεις για σύνορα, μεταναστεύσεις, πολιτικά τοπία και προσωπικές διαδρομές, το σώμα αναδεικνύεται ως τόπος μνήμης, συνάντησης, αλλαγής και ελπίδας.

This year's edition brings together artists from Cyprus and abroad, presenting works that move between the personal and the collective, memory, the future, and contemporary political realities. Through dance, performance, music, and lecture performance, the artists explore new ways of speaking about loss, resilience, displacement, and shared human experience.

From rituals of mourning and collective resistance to narratives of borders, migration, political landscapes, and personal journeys, the body emerges as a site of memory, encounter, transformation, and hope.

Πήραμε μια ανάσα — και τώρα ήρθε η στιγμή για τη σημαντικότερη ανακοίνωση του φεστιβάλ: το ευχαριστώ μας. 🖤

Ευχαριστούμε όλες και όλους που μας τιμήσατε με την παρουσία σας στα θέατρα, σε όλους όσους περπατήσαμε παρέα σε δρόμους, χορέψαμε σε πλατείες και απολαύσαμε τον ορίζοντα.

Yesterday, we wrapped up the 16th edition of Open House Festival.

The final day brought together rhythm, movement, and shared experiences; From the Intercultural Dance Jam Session at Anagennisi Square, to Walking into It (CY) by Maria Papageorgiou, the evocative Shiraz (DE, NO) by Armin Hokmi at Technochoro ETHAL, and the closing concert-performance We Out in the Field, Like Grass! (CY) by X.ypno at ETHAL Foyer.

A warm thank you to all the artists, collaborators, partners, and audiences who joined us over these four days — for your energy, openness, and presence.
