The eventual growth in the use of cameras and hence of people keen to improve and enhance their knowledge in photography, led to the formation of the Limassol Branch in 1984. The Cyprus Photographic Society’s mission is to help develop and promote the art of photography. The Society offers equal opportunities and does not discriminate, among its members, on the bases of race, creed, colour, nation
al origin or s*x. To help achieve the Society’s targets the following are organized on a regular basis:
Lectures, seminars and projections on specific or general interest photo subjects. The established two Annual Photo Seminars
- The Art of Photography and Techniques, comprised of a series of 20 1 ½ hour lectures.
- An Introduction to the Photoshop, a series of 7 1 ½ hour lectures and practice. All lectures are presented by qualified teachers and addressed to the novice and advanced participants. The hosting of presentations and educational programs including the use and importance of photography in specialized areas (archaeology, architecture, industry etc.) The organization of workshops. The organization of photographic competitions to cover major events that take place primarily in Cyprus and help create an archive for the local authorities and the future generations, as well as specific themes. Photo exhibitions, including fund raising exhibitions whereby the members cover the cost of the prints which they offer for sale and all the proceeds are donated to the Organization the event is organized for. The projection of films relating to photography. Photo shooting Field trips and walks. The recently restored, spacious and fully equipped premises of the CPS (Limassol Branch), are located on Angyra’s Street, No. 120 in the historic quarter of the city. The facilities include the Lectures and Exhibitions Hall, a well-equipped Darkroom, Antique Cameras showroom, a Library of books and magazines referring to photography.
