📢 Official Announcement: TSSR is Legally Registered in France! 🚀🇫🇷

We are thrilled and incredibly proud to announce that The Shelter Students’ Refuge (TSSR) is officially registered as a Civil Society Organization (CSO) under the French 1901 Association Law!

This is a monumental step forward for our team, our community, and the youth we serve. 🌟

Our Mission?

To champion the socio-professional integration of young people from minorities and the African diaspora. We are dedicated to equipping them with the tools, mentorship, and opportunities they need to thrive and effectively step into key decision-making roles at all levels. 💼🌍

What’s Next?

With this official legal status, TSSR is now fully empowered to build strategic institutional partnerships, launch structured mentorship programs, and drive high-impact advocacy campaigns across France and beyond. We are ready to build bridges, unlock potential, and amplify the voices of the next generation of global leaders.

A massive thank you to our founders, our Executive Director, and everyone who has supported us in turning this vision into a reality.

The hard work begins now! 💪✨

Stay tuned for our upcoming projects and find out how you can get involved. 🤝

Honored to be represented by Franck Rictus Ngongang at the Fifth Session of the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. 🌍✊🏾

This is more than a seat at the table—it’s a responsibility to amplify the voices of Afrodescendant migrants, students, and communities too often unheard.

From Northern Cyprus to the global stage, we continue to advocate for dignity, inclusion, and justice.

The work continues. The voices rise.

2025 was not easy—but it was real.
From survival to solidarity, from silence to advocacy.
Thank you for trusting us, standing with us, and shaping this journey together. 🤍
This is only the beginning.

Just a few glimpses from our workshop we cofacilitated with VOIS Cyprus at Civicon 2025!

We tried to start a conversation that would - once and for all - center the humanity of the most disadvantaged, over harmful narratives and messy geopolitics.

We started by pointing out the predominant narrative portrayed by the media, alongside right-wing elements in governance: "Black and brown immigrants, including immigrant students, are inherently criminals - a source of insecurity and destabilisation that ought to be controlled and/or removed".

We then drew parallels between the existing narrative/attitude and the 2015 so-called "Refugee Crisis" in Europe, by discussing a paper on "The Coloniality of Migration" that introduces an alternative framework to analyze migration trends (by acknowledging the active role played by colonialism, neocolonialism and racial capitalism).

With it, through profound feedback from the lovely participants, we tried to expose the systems (and identities) that not only divide us through distorting facts but also actively profit from the said division and distortion (not to mention, also, all the violence).

We critically examined - and mocked - the predominant narratives, laughed and discussed creating solidarity spaces.

It was a pleasure! Thank you Civic Space / Sivil Alan for organizing.

S/o for being a guest speaker.

Human Rights are not privileges. They are rights.

📅 10 December – Human Rights Day

From the right to education, to dignified work, freedom of movement, and protection from discrimination — human rights should apply to everyone, regardless of passport, skin color, or legal status.

Yet for many migrants, refugees, and international students in Cyprus and across Europe, these rights remain conditional, fragile, or inaccessible.

At The Shelter Students Refuge (TSSR) and Afri-Art Connect ( AAC) we believe human rights must be lived, not just celebrated once a year.

That means: ✊🏾 Standing against racism and exploitation
📚 Defending access to education and fair labour
🤝 Building communities based on dignity and belonging

Human rights start where silence ends.
Today, we choose to speak.
Today, we choose solidarity.

x The Shelter & VOIS Cyprus – Session Spotlight

❓ How can we reclaim truth as a civic right to amplify migrant voices?

📰 “Truth as a Right: Countering Misinformation, Post-Truth, and Restoring Trust” workshop, invites participants to critically examine the effects of mis-information, dis-information and biased narratives on the lives of migrants and refugees.

🤝 Through a set of engaging exercises, participants will explore how to center communities’ experiences over politicized narratives and challenge harmful stereotypes that perpetuate the racialization of migrants.
