“2139th Regular Meeting – Learning, Sharing & Serving Together”

As the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman, we held our 2139th regular meeting once again at our dear home, Dome Hotel, in an atmosphere of friendship, fellowship, and the true spirit of Rotary.
During our meeting, we discussed fundraising activities and new project ideas aimed at generating resources for our service projects and further strengthening our work in the community.
September – Basic Education and Literacy Month
As part of Rotary’s focus on literacy, our dear fellow Rotarian Derviş Yaşar Baha, Past President and Past Assistant Governor, gave us an engaging and interactive presentation on the importance of literacy. We sincerely thank him for his valuable contribution, insightful sharing, and for raising our awareness on this important issue.
Another special moment of the evening was the Sergeant-at-Arms chain ceremony for our dear member Sema Türköz Bilir.
We wish Sema every success in her new role and thank her for taking on this important responsibility with the spirit of Rotary.
For us, every meeting is more than simply coming together. It is an opportunity to learn, share, create, and take new steps that will make a meaningful difference in our community.
With Rotaryan love and respect…

ÖZCAN BUNDAK MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT AND CEREMONY

The support shown for our fundraising campaign to establish the Özcan Bundak Aviation and Electronics Memorial Centre at Sedat Simavi Vocational High School is truly heartwarming.
As part of this initiative, the Özcan Bundak Memorial Golf Tournament was held with great success and an outstanding turnout, with the first event taking place on 21 June and the second today, 11 July, at Korineum Golf & Beach Resort.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Claire Morley, Soner Yetkili, the Korineum Management, all the golfers who participated, and everyone who contributed through their generous donations. Your support is helping turn this meaningful vision into reality.
At the closing ceremony, the proceeds raised were officially presented to our Club, while the tournament winners received their trophies. With the presence of Özcan Bundak's beloved family and the speech of her sister Professor Dr. Ruveyde Bundak, the ceremony was both deeply moving and truly memorable.
In memory of our dear Özcan, who was also an accomplished golfer, we had the honour of unveiling a commemorative bench, generously donated by the Korineum Management and placed beneath the first tree on the golf course. Sharing this special moment with all participants was an emotional tribute to her life and legacy.
We are also pleased to announce that the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman – Özcan Bundak Fund has now been officially established. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Işın Ramadan Cemil, one of Özcan's closest lifelong friends, for making the very first donation on behalf of herself and her family.
As a Club, our highest priority this year is to complete the Özcan Bundak Aviation and Electronics Memorial Centre as soon as possible and open its doors to inspire and serve future generations of young people.
Together, we are confident that we will honour Özcan Bundak's memory by creating a lasting legacy that will inspire generations to come.

On Wednesday evening, 1st July, we proudly held our Joint Handover Ceremony at the Merit Lefkoşa Hotel, organized by the Kyrenia Liman, Kyrenia Cosmopolitan, Nicosia Sarayönü and Kyrenia St. Hilarion Rotary Clubs of Northern Cyprus. It was an evening filled with friendship, fellowship and celebration.

The presence of our club members, distinguished guests, valued friends from Rotary clubs in Southern Cyprus, and our special guests from the Mersin Rotary Club made the evening even more meaningful. We sincerely thank everyone who honoured us with their presence.

We were proud to present one of Rotary's highest recognitions, the Paul Harris Fellow award, to İşin Ramadan Cemil, Ayşe Debbağ Sezerli, and Ramadan Cemil Debbağ in recognition of their outstanding contributions to serving our community. Congratulations to each of them on this well-deserved honour.

We were also delighted to welcome Şebnem Bundak, Saide Mustafa, Selin Soykurt Serter, and Aslı Babayiğit into our Rotary family by presenting them with their Rotary membership pins. Together, we will continue to grow stronger, serve more effectively, and make an even greater positive impact through the spirit of Rotary.

During the evening, we proudly introduced the Özcan Bundak Aviation and Electronics Centre Memorial Fund, established to honour the memory of the late Rotarian Özcan Bundak, Cyprus's first female electrical and electronics engineer. We also announced, with great pleasure, that the first donations had already begun to arrive following the announcement that the Centre will be established within Sedat Simavi Vocational High School.

The evening also marked the handover of office by the presidents of our three Rotary clubs to their successors. At the same time, I had the honour and privilege of being re-elected by the decision of our Board of Directors to serve a second term as President for the 2026–2027 Rotary year.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was our traditional club flag exchange with the Mersin Rotary Club, a cherished symbol of the strong bonds of Rotary International and the friendship between our clubs.

We sincerely hope that our friendship will continue to flourish for many years to come.

May the new Rotary year bring even stronger friendships, lasting service, and opportunities to leave a positive impact on our communities. Together, we will continue to serve above self

OUR REGULAR MEETING AND FAREWELL TO ROTARY YEAR 2025-26

Last night, Wednesday, 17 June, we held our 2137th regular meeting at the Dome Hotel together with the esteemed members of our Rotary Club. Our main topic was once again the Özcan Bundak Memorial Fund, which we established within our club. We remembered him with the precious marks and memories she left in our club, and we also discussed the dinner and handover ceremony to be held on 1st July.
On this occasion, we celebrated the outstanding achievements of our esteemed member Mr. Serdar Özdemir in the fields of tourism and insurance consultancy, and we cut our cake to mark the successful completion of the 2025–2026 Rotary term.
I wish the 2026–2027 Rotary term to bring prosperity and success to both our club and our world.
With Rotary regards.

AT THE END OF THE LAST TWO WEEKS

Following PELS (the Presidents-Elect Learning Seminar), the Cyprus Peace Forum, and our Club's regular meeting, we concluded a very full, productive, and beneficial week.
AG May Monia Chmaitilly from Lebanon was elected as the 2026–27 District Governor of District 2452 and will take over the position in June from DG Peter Ashdjian. By attending our seminar, she introduced herself, her goals, the new deputy District Governor, Assistant Governors, and Presidents. In addition, both her presentations and those delivered by senior Rotarians — containing valuable and updated information about Rotary — contributed greatly to our training program.

The Peace Forum organized in Limassol by the Cyprus Rotary Clubs, focused on how the two communities could cooperate for their mutual benefit even before a political solution is reached on the island. Topics ranged from the joint use of local resources to energy, food, and tourism. In particular, the comprehensive presentation prepared by Mr. Mustafa Besim attracted significant attention. Alongside the keynote speakers Mr. Ozdil Nami (former chief negotiator) and Dr. I. Kasoulides (former Minister of Foreign Affairs), the contributions of academics and experts from both communities were highly appreciated by the audience from both sides. The meal that followed the forum, attended by all club members and participants, took place in a very friendly atmosphere.

At our regular meeting, the first item on the agenda was discussing the details of the ÖZCAN BUNDAK AVIATION AND ELECTRONICS CENTER MEMORIAL FUND, which we established to honor the memory of our dear friend Özcan. We shared with our club members, with mixed emotions and satisfaction, the announcement that — in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education — the school where the center will be established has now been identified.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks in advance to everyone who has contributed and will contribute to the Ozcan Bundak fund.

NATİONAL SOVEREİGNTY AND CHİLDREN'S DAY

The opening day of the Assembly, which paved the way for the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye on April 23rd 1920, is celebrated every year as “National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.” April 23 is both a symbol of the will of the people and the first and only holiday in the world dedicated to children by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
For many years, April 23rd has been celebrated not only in Türkiye but also internationally, with the participation of children from different countries around the world.
This year, as the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman, we attended the celebrations organized by Yeşilyurt Special Education and Vocational Training School, which we continuously and primarily support, on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
We proudly watched our special students reflect their remarkable progress in education through the dances and performances they presented successfully.
We also served cake and baklava kindly prepared by Merit Diamond Hotel, accompanied by pleasant conversations.
We sincerely congratulate the school principal, Ms. Esma İneci, and her team for their great efforts contributing to the visible success of the students.

VISIT TO RAUF RAIF DENKTAŞ VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

On March 30, 2026, I, Hülya Gokoğlu, as the President of the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman, together with Alpay Çelebi, President of the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Cosmopolitan, paid a visit to Rauf Raif Denktaş Vocational High School.

The school, which was inaugurated on January 13, 2025, with the aim of contributing to vocational and technical education, greatly impressed us with its modern structure and contemporary classrooms.

After meeting and having a conversation with the School Principal, Mr. Rüstem Kal, our confidence grew that the school would achieve significant progress in a short time under such a strong and knowledgeable leader.

We left the school feeling happy, both because we were able to contribute, even in a small way, to the educational journey of these valuable students, and because of the positive impressions we gained.
