Over the past couple of weeks, CompassionAid Canada was featured twice on CTV News and once on CBC Radio, where I spoke about the situation on the ground in Cuba and shared my thoughts on Canada’s promise to provide $8 million in aid.
I’ve been dealing with major connectivity issues here, so posting isn’t always easy. My apologies for the delayed update.
Being on the ground and seeing the hospitals, polyclinics, and local communities firsthand reminds me every day how critical this work is.
A heartfelt thank you to the teams at CTV and CBC for reaching out to hear my perspective and for helping share this mission with a wider audience. Raising awareness is essential, and together we can make a real impact.

CompassionAid has been quiet but still here.

For the past six months, I was living in Cuba, spending extended time inside hospitals and polyclinics like this one. Power outages and limited internet made posting hard, but the work was happening in the background.

These photos are real. Cabinets with very limited supplies inside them. Handwritten labels. Doctors and nurses doing the best they can with what they have.

Right now, I’m traveling and working on collecting more medical supplies so I can return better prepared.

Living here in Cuba, I’ve seen how strong and resilient people can be — but Hurricane Melissa was an experience I will never forget.

Here in Camagüey, we were lucky this time — Hurricane Melissa passed with strong winds and rain, but not the kind of destruction many other parts of Cuba are facing.

Even so, it’s hard to watch the news and see the devastation in the eastern provinces, knowing how fragile life already is here. Every storm feels heavier when people are already struggling with shortages of food, water, medicine, and electricity.

What amazes me most is the spirit of the people — the calm, the kindness, the way neighbours help one another without hesitation. That strength is what keeps this island standing.

Through CompassionAid Canada, I’ve been bringing medical and humanitarian aid to remote areas of Cuba. After this hurricane, that mission feels even more urgent. Please keep Cuba in your thoughts — and if you’d like to help, reach out. Every act of compassion makes a difference. 💔🇨🇺

Every suitcase and box I carry tells a story - children waiting for school supplies, of patients waiting for basic medical care, of families facing hardships that most of the world never sees. What may look like luggage to some is a lifeline to others.
This isn't about travel or resorts- its about showing up, delivering what's needed, and witnessing hope in action.

Leonardo is 80, collects cans and cardboard every day, and walks with two different shoes because of his foot problems—but his faith and stories light up the little café I go to daily. He recently invited me to his home for dinner and dreams of sharing his history books with me—his only request? A large-print Bible. People like him are why I started CompassionAid.

He lives in a small, humble home by the railway tracks in Nuevitas, Cuba. In his younger years, he was an English teacher, and he still speaks flawlessly. His memory and knowledge of history are incredible, and his faith in God is unshakable. His wisdom humbles me, and his friendship is unforgettable.

His daily visits to the café have become the highlight of my time in Cuba. In those moments, he shares stories, quiet strength, and resilience that stay with me long after.

This is why CompassionAid exists. It’s not just about delivering supplies—it’s about seeing people, listening to them, and honoring their lives. Elders like Leonardo are too often forgotten, but they hold so much dignity, resilience, and faith.

Your generosity allows us to keep showing up for people like Leonardo—with medical supplies, essentials, and, most importantly, compassion.

If his story touches your heart, I invite you to join us. Together, we can make sure more people like Leonardo are seen, supported, and remembered.

Most people only see the end results. A picture at the hospital, clinic or nursing home where supplies are delivered.

What you dont see is the early mornings, hours on the road, the donations I sort through late at night.

You don't see the flights I pay for myself, the extra luggage fees, the car rental at the destination, the long distances traveled on Cuban rural roads.

Its costs physically, mentally and financially. I don't have a big team or funding at this point. Its just a promise I made to keep showing up, no matter what.

So that is why my non profit CompassionAid Canada was born. Please follow along my journey.

They might seem like little things, a few bandages, gloves, syringes, ointments and sutures. But to some remote communities where no one visits, they mean everything.
This is what CompassionAid Canada is about.
Quietly showing up.

Today, I walked through a hospital where empty shelves and worn-out equipment tell a story of struggle—but also resilience. The doctors and nurses here work tirelessly to save lives despite the odds.

This hospital isn’t alone. Around the world, countless facilities face similar struggles, silently fighting battles against time and circumstance. But together, we can change that. Together, we can ensure no community fights alone.

Every donation, every act of kindness, brings us closer to a future where no hospital has to ration hope. Let’s stand with them. Let’s be the difference.
