"In 2012, our students had endured years of catastrophic budget cuts caused by the recession and learned in classrooms packed tighter than they should ever be. California voters asked the wealthiest 2% to pay a little more to help our schools recover. It worked," says Starr Avila.

Californians, then, voted again to protect this funding that feeds millions of our students and provides healthcare coverage for families through Medi-Cal.

Prop 3 would help keep these funds in our classrooms without raising taxes for anyone. Read more here: https://calmatters.org/commentary/2026/08/proposition-3-california-schools-funding/

Proud of our three members who are volunteering their time this summer to represent us at the 2026 NEA Representative Assembly in Denver!

They are joining more than 6,000 educators from across the country to help shape the future of public education and ensure our members have a voice on the national stage.

It's official. Our campaign to protect California school funding is now YES on Prop 3, on the November ballot.

Prop 3 keeps the wealthiest Californians paying their share so our public schools get the funding our students deserve. Without it, our public schools face a devastating 15% budget cut.

We worked to get it on the ballot. Now we take that same energy to November.

CTA is proud to endorse Xavier Becerra for Governor. This November the choice is clear. Our students and communities deserve a leader who will stand up for public education.

We did it. 🙌 Signatures have been counted! The Secretary of State just announced that the permanent extension of Prop 55 to fund public education is eligible for the November ballot!
