At the beginning of August 2002, 28 people from 11 different countries came to the town of Kosjeric in south-west Serbia. They came from Macedonia, Germany, Great Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Finland, Belgium, Denmark and Yugoslavia. All of them were hosted with local families and for 12 days they were engaged in the programme that comprises music, poetry and visual art, as well as many a
dditional activities. The idea of the Kosjeric Art Camp originated from The Club of Friendship based at The Centre for Anti-War Action in Belgrade. The cooperation was set up between Young Researchers of Serbia from Belgrade, who administrate the reception of the participants and the local community in the town of Kosjeric that provide equipment, accommodation and facilities. Accommodation is provided at private houses of local families with the meals in some of the local restaurants. The main concept of the Art Camp is to enable young people to meet across the borders and share their interests and skills. The camp was deliberately set outside the city of Belgrade in order to make a smaller local community benefit from international inputs, but also to give a chance to international participants to explore the capacities of a Serbian inner city and it’s surrounding natural beauties. Kosjeric is situated in the Western part of Serbia, 146 km south-west from Belgrade. The town is place near Bosnian border with the river Drina to the West and the Serbian region of Sumadia to the East. North of the town are the river Kolubara and the mountain centre of Divcibare. Towards the South Kosjeric is very well connected with town of Uzice, the regional centre placed on the main railway to Montenegro. Kosjeric is very famous tourist place with the preserved nature and reach cultural heritage. During the summer Kosjeric is especially lively place with many students coming back home to spend a vacation with their families and friends.
