The British Council and BIRN Srbija are proud to announce the publication of the Next Generation: What We Know report into youth perspectives on media and mis/disinformation in the Western Balkans.
This research sheds light on the complexity of the information environments that young people in the region must navigate and describes the ways in which they have adapted to it.
At a time when mis/disinformation is an endemic phenomenon around the world, our work has shown there is a particular challenge in the Western Balkans. Low levels of trust in media and public institutions having created a fertile environment for the spread of mis/disinformation. Young people are especially affected by this rapidly evolving information landscape, but their perspectives and experiences remain underexplored.
This research was undertaken to help address that gap, and to amplify the voices of young people aged 18–30 in the six countries of the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia).
Seven main themes emerge from the report, which you can read in full at this link: https://ow.ly/OPJk50Z7uVJ
