For more than 20 years, Dr Katarina Golubović has worked to strengthen the rule of law, judicial independence, access to justice and the protection of fundamental freedoms in Serbia.
Katarina first joined the human rights organisation as a student and quickly realised that human rights work was more than a profession. Today, she is President of YUCOM Komitet pravnika za ljudska prava/Lawyers' Committee for Human Rights.
At a time of growing pressure on civic space and democratic institutions in Serbia, Katarina sees particular hope in the solidarity and civic mobilisation taking place across the country.
“We are now in a position where we do not merely protect, but actively co-create a better living environment, better public services, and better governance together with the community.”
Katarina was photographed by Marija Vukelić in front of Kuća ljudskih prava Beograd / Human Rights House Belgrade in June 2026 for the fourth edition of — HRHF’s photography series honouring women defending human rights across the Network of .

Such messages have frequently been used to intimidate, stigmatise and target individuals and organisations associated with the country’s largest wave of student- and citizen-led protests.”
