New knowledge is brewing in the SPACE Project 🚀

This week at PlacemakingWestern Balkans, we’ve started with development of three new e-learning modules — and we’re excited to share what these modules are about:

✨ Placemaking 101 – this module will be your go-to introduction to creating vibrant, people-centered places in urban, peri-urban and rural neighbourhoods, �

🤝 Designing with Communities – here we will explain how to use open science based, existing tools and methods to co-create with people in a meaningful way.�

☑️ From Talk to Walk – how to turn ideas, sketches and concepts into action, through piloting and prototyping

All the modules aim to provide hands-on practical, interactive and ready-to-use learning experiences, that will channel local citizens’ energy into real life projects.

Our Placemaking Western Balkans SPACE Project team will join the event titled "Culture in the field - what is youth creating in the Western Balkans?" on the 27th of March in Belgrade's CKZD, a project by Balkans Youth Cultural Fund and , Regional Youth Cooperation Office. Entrance is free, see you there if you're in town!

Placemaking Western Balkans is supporting this year’s Urban Future. , as a networking partner. Join the Festival in wonderful Ljubljana, Slovenia, from March 24th to 27th!

The festival brings together urban thinkers, practitioners, policymakers, and communities to explore how cities can respond to social, environmental, and economic challenges shaping our shared future.

Through talks, workshops, and public discussions, the event creates space for exchange across disciplines and sectors, encouraging collaboration and new perspectives on sustainable urban development.

Naši divni partneri iz Interreg Danube PLACECraft projekta produžili su Poziv za domaćine studijske posete o ruralnom placemaking-u (CFH) do 15og januara 2026. godine.
Ovaj poziv je otvoren za manje opštine i organizacije koje su aktivne u zemljama Dunavskog regiona, a koje bi želele da budu domaćini PLACECraft istraživača i pridruže se projektnom konzorcijumu u jačanju ruralnog placemaking-a i održivog turizma.
Posebno smo zainteresovani za prijave potencijalnih domaćina iz Srbije i Hrvatske : ako ste ponosni na svoj jedinstveni pristup ruralnoj obnovi, ili ste radoznali da saznate više o novim alatima i placemaking strategijama za razvoj održivog turizma u selima i manjim mestima - želeli bismo da vas upoznamo lično! 🌿 Ever heard of Jerma?
It is a Special Nature Reserve of the Jerma’s river gorge, in southeast Serbia, and home of the Jerma Art Festival, a unique effort in weaving together art, nature, and community to address one of rural Europe's most pressing challenges: depopulation.

Last October, we at Western Balkans had the privilege of inviting Srdjan Mancev, the festival's visionary organizer (and professional cameraman), to the SPACE Project training in Deventer, Netherlands.
Srdjan shared how they're mobilizing young people to protect fragile rural ecosystems through artistic activation of open spaces. It's placemaking at its most authentic — where creativity becomes a tool for preservation, and art transforms into advocacy.

🫱 🫲 We are getting ready to elevate the Space Project to the next phase: hands-on study trip to the !

Next week Monday 13th October there will be a workshop on for all the participants from our network who will be on their way to Deventer by the end of October.

The workshop is taking place at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory in Belgrade, and it's hyperlocal.
But drop us a message at [email protected] if you are interested in tools and methods for peri-urban and rural areas that involve > we are looking forward to see who is out there working on the same topic and who could have use of our tools!
