Ever notice natural wood debris scattered along the shore and thought it looked messy? It’s actually a vital part of a healthy coastal ecosystem!
When natural wood debris decomposes on the shore, it triggers a beautiful chain reaction:
1️⃣ It feeds the soil, allowing the tropical forest to grow tall and strong.
2️⃣ It enriches the sand, providing crucial nutrients for sea turtle eggs. 🐢
3️⃣ It creates a natural barrier that protects our beautiful beaches from water erosion.
But there’s a big difference between nature's cycle and human impact.
While we should leave the driftwood to do its job, removing inorganic waste, like plastics, glass, and trash, is vital. Plastic doesn't decompose into nutrients; it breaks down into microplastics that harm wildlife and pollute the ocean.
Let’s change how we look at our coastlines: protect the organic, clean up the inorganic. A "messy" beach is often a healthy one, as long as it's shaped by nature! 🌿🗑️
