Más de 150 niños, niñas y jóvenes de nuestras comunidades disfrutaron de un día lleno de actividades divertidas, estimulantes y mucha alegría. También pudieron disfrutar de las piscinas y de todo lo que el Parque Recreativo La Sebana tiene para ofrecer. 🏊‍♀️☀️🎈

🎉 Celebrating Children’s Day in La Carpio! ⚽️🌦️

Over the weekend, we had a few special celebrations for Children’s Day with the youth we support in La Carpio.

45 kids from our sports league were invited to help inaugurate a new community field and take part in some friendly matches. The sun was shining, the games were underway, and everyone was having a great time. ☀️⚽️

Then, toward the end of the event, the rain arrived! 🌧️ And of course, that just made things even more fun. The kids took full advantage of the rain and mud to run, play, laugh, and get wonderfully messy — just as kids should! 🎉🙌

A great way to celebrate childhood, community, and the joy of simply being outside together. ❤️

✨ TBT to our work in Tortuguero. 🚤🌿

Willis Rankin was more than just a boatman. He was a community leader, a visionary, and an important part of so many CRHF journeys to Tortuguero. He helped coordinate countless trips and welcomed international visitors to this incredible part of Costa Rica.

Back then, the journey itself was an adventure—taking anywhere from 6 to 10 hours, depending on the weather and the conditions of the canals, ocean, and rivers. Traveling to Tortuguero often felt like stepping back in time. Remote, beautiful, unpredictable, and truly magical.

Willis is no longer with us, but his legacy lives on through the impact he had on his community and on the many international visitors whose lives and perspectives were touched through these journeys.

Today, we remember Willis and look back with gratitude on the adventures, friendships, and unforgettable experiences that connected us to the people and beauty of Tortuguero. 💚🇨🇷

⏰ 6:00 AM at CRHF in La Carpio… and the work is already underway.

365 days a year, our buses head out early each morning to pick up food generously donated by Auto Mercado supermarkets. 🚍🥬🍞🍎

On average, we recover 500 kilos of food every single day that would otherwise go to waste.

Instead, this food helps provide healthy and nutritious options to people in our community, including single mothers, persons with disabilities, seniors living on fixed incomes, and families and individuals simply going through a difficult time. ❤️

Behind this program is an incredible team of collaborators who work hard every day. Through their dedication and the program’s operations, they generate enough income to make the food recovery and distribution program entirely self-sustaining.

🌍🇰🇪 Gail Goes to Kenya!

Last week, our sister organization, Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI), hosted the inspiring Dream Big Conference in Kenya.

For 10 incredible days, more than 200 scholars and young leaders from across Africa came together to learn, connect, share ideas, and dream big about the future. 🌟

Our founder, Gail Nystrom, was honored to participate as one of the conference’s keynote speakers and mentors, sharing her experience and connecting with the next generation of leaders who are working to create positive change in their communities.

We are proud to see Gail representing the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation and to continue our connection with the incredible work of Wells Mountain Initiative.

The future is bright when young people are given the opportunity to learn, lead, and dream big!
