CoLaborers Costa Rica

CoLaborers Costa Rica We are a branch of CoLaborers International assisting local organizations reaching women and children in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Currently, we are focusing efforts in the impoverished community of La Carpio. We began serving in San Jose in 2020, helping women and children in the impoverished community of La Carpio. We work alongside locally-led organizations with a focus on women's empowerment, child education, bible studies, and nutrition. We also provide relevant professional trainings, interns, and do an annual nature camp.

We had a very fun and special time during Brittany's lesson on the Last Supper. This part focused on Jesus washing the disciples' feet and the concept of how we can serve others.

These weeks before Holy Week, we are focusing our lessons on what happened during the days before the crucifixion of Jesus. Along with Bible reading we use tools like crafts and video clips to help reenforce the main points of our lessons.

While public school is free, buying uniforms and supplies can be a financial strain and potentially block some of the children we serve from going to school or having what they need to learn well. This year, the Lord provided in such a big way through the generosity of a donor, that we were able to buy 72 packs of school supplies for the children enrolled in the program in Las Gradas. It is such a joyful thing to be able to provide for an essential need that will allow these families to keep moving forward. We are continuing to pray and search for ways to improve access to education for our kiddos. This is a big part of that!
Thank you to the donor, for making an impact in this community!

The Las Gradas elementary age program started off in such a fun way! With 14 new children and 62 returning this year, we wanted to spend a week having fun and getting to know each other, and catch up on how their summer breaks went. We played games, did a craft, and watched some funny videos with Bible stories while eating burgers. It was a great way to start the year before jumping back into learning about Jesus together!

Anytime a group comes to serve with us, we aim to show them the beauty of Costa Rica during our tourism days! With the Hope Fellowship team, we went to the beach, hiked in a national park, went to a butterfly garden, enjoyed typical food at a restaurant, and did a walking tour of downtown San José before ending at the Central Market for artisan made souvenirs. We all had a blast!

would not be possible without the sacrificial efforts of all our leaders! Something we love about camp is that its a team effort between our local leaders and our international missionary team from Hope Fellowship. We work together through language barriers to put on an amazing experience for our kids, and it could not be accomplished without everyone's efforts! To God be the glory!

The mud run is always the most loved and hated part ot camp to finish off the week. Do yourself a favor and scroll through all the photos for some iconic moments. So proud of the effort everyone put into it, working so well as a team regardless of language barriers, physical limitations, and just so much mud!

The point of this game, Defending the Leader, was for the campers to circle up and protect their camp counselor in the middle from getting wet. Carlos just decided to sprint as fast as he could to avoid the water. 😅 Then the kids asked to get revenge on the gringos and we got a taste of our own medicine. 🚿💦

Our focus for the team games was not just winning and losing, but HOW you win and lose. Teams were also awarded points for how they cheered for others, how they worked together, being a good sport, etc. In the end, the orange team (The Sloths) won the whole weekend, and I think every camper learned a lot and had so much fun by playing this way!

So proud of all the effort these kids put into learning how to swim with just an hour lesson per cabin, and then all their practice afterwards! Our focus was safety in the water - swimming efficiently to save energy and learning how to float.
