PATA was founded in April 2019 and is run by Sally Ella Horn and Emma Martinelli. It costs us at least $3,000 a month to do what we do.

We are a legal non-profit association rescuing abandoned and neglected cats and dogs in the community.

- Run a dog refuge where abandoned, sick and neglected dogs are cared for and nursed back to health.
- Organize foster care for abandoned and sick cats and kittens.
- Arrange adoptions into responsible forever homes.
- Work with other rescue organisations to fly our dogs to their new homes in the US and Canada.
- Subsidize low cost spay and neuter opportunities.
- Trap, castrate and release street cats to help control the population.

❤️ From Forgotten to Forever Loved — Katie’s Story ❤️

Katie was rescued in April alongside her 8-month-old daughter. The two girls had been unwanted and neglected, left living on a property where they were essentially ignored and starving.

Thankfully, a kind neighbour noticed their plight. She began feeding the girls and reached out to several rescues asking for help. No one responded.

Except us.

When we heard what Katie and her daughter were going through, we knew we had to help. We didn’t have space to take them immediately, but we kept working toward a solution — and eventually, the day came when we were able to bring them to safety. 🐾

A few months ago, Kasia reached out to us hoping to adopt a small-breed dog. At the time, we simply didn’t have the right dog for her family.

Then came our fundraiser, where Katie was one of the dogs we brought along, hoping someone would see what we saw in her — a sweet girl who deserved so much more than the life she had been given.

And then something wonderful happened.

Kasia’s son met Katie.

It was love at first sight. ❤️

Sometimes, we can search and search for the perfect match, but every now and then, the dog chooses their person — and Katie knew.

The rest, as they say, is history. 🥹

Katie has gone from being unwanted, neglected and starving to being wanted, cherished and loved. She finally has the family she always deserved and a forever home of her own.

We couldn’t be happier for this beautiful girl. ❤️

Happy forever, Katie. You waited long enough. Now your life can truly begin. 🐶🏡❤️

🐾❤️ PACO IS LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME ❤️🐾

Just look at this handsome boy! 🥰 Paco is 2 years old and has so much love to give.

He’s gentle, playful, affectionate, and full of joy. He loves being around people, enjoys playing, and is especially happy at the beach! 🌊🐶

Paco was surrendered by his owner, who sadly no longer had the time or space to care for him properly. He was also being hassled by neighbouring dogs, making life even more stressful for this sweet boy.

Because Paco hadn’t had much socialization, he was a little nervous when we first met him. But he’s proving to be a quick learner, gaining confidence every day and showing us what a wonderful companion he can be. ❤️

All Paco needs now is someone who will give him the patience, love, security, and forever home he deserves.

Es dulce, juguetón, cariñoso y lleno de alegría. Le encanta estar con las personas, disfruta jugar y ¡es especialmente feliz en la playa! 🌊🐶

Paco fue entregado por su dueño, quien lamentablemente ya no tenía el tiempo ni el espacio necesario para cuidarlo adecuadamente. Además, otros perros de los vecinos lo estaban molestando, lo que hacía que su vida fuera aún más estresante para este dulce muchacho.

Como Paco no había tenido mucha socialización, al principio se mostró un poco nervioso cuando lo conocimos. Pero ha demostrado ser un perro que aprende rápido, ganando confianza cada día y demostrando qué maravilloso compañero puede ser. ❤️

Ahora Paco solo necesita a alguien que le dé la paciencia, el amor, la seguridad y el hogar para siempre que tanto merece.

In loving memory of little Finnley 💔🌈

We are absolutely heartbroken to share that our beautiful little Finnley passed away last week.

Finn’s story began in heartbreaking circumstances. He was found on a property alongside three other dogs. We had gone there desperately trying to rescue another dog who was extremely skinny and appeared very sick. Eventually, the owner agreed to relinquish him but only if we took three more of her dogs too.

We had no idea what we were about to find.
Among them was Finnley.

He couldn’t move his back legs, and he was lying in his own urine. He was frightened, nervous, and understandably confused. Seeing him in that condition was absolutely heartbreaking. We were told that he had been hit by a vehicle.

Finn had partial paralysis in his back legs, but we held onto hope that, with care and rehabilitation, he might regain some use of them. Sadly, X-rays revealed extensive damage to his spine that could not be operated on.

But Finn wasn’t ready to give up. ❤️
Thanks to an incredibly generous donation of a wheelchair, he was given a new lease on life. And what a life he made of it!

He loved running up and down the beach in his wheelchair. He loved going into the water. And, incredibly, he even began using his back legs a little, although he was never able to put his full weight on them

The scared, nervous little dog we first met slowly disappeared, and in his place emerged a happy, joyful boy who absolutely adored people

Finn loved attention. He loved his walks so much that he would get ridiculously excited and make the sweetest little squeals of delight. He had discovered freedom, happiness, and the simple joy of being loved

For a dog who had endured so much, Finn taught us so much about resilience. Then, devastatingly, disaster struck 💔

Finn became seriously ill with a severe intestinal infection. Despite receiving the very best medical care and everything possible being done to save him, his immune system and internal organs were simply too compromised by everything he had endured. His little body could fight no more.

He got to run on the beach.
He got to splash in the water.
He got to feel excitement and joy.
He got to be adored.
And, most importantly, he got to know that he mattered.

Finnley may have arrived broken and afraid, but he left this world knowing love.

Run free, sweet Finn. 🌈🐾

You deserved so much more time, but we will forever be grateful for every precious moment we had with you.

You were loved. You mattered. You will never be forgotten 💔

🐾 From Copito to Teddy — A Little Boy Found His Forever Family! ❤️

When little Copito was surrendered at only a few months old, our refuge was already full, so we urgently searched for a foster home where this tiny boy could be safe.

Thankfully, Marilis stepped up and welcomed him into her home. 🥰

A blood test soon revealed that Copito was severely anemic from malnutrition. But despite his difficult start, he remained the happiest, most loving little pup — always ready to play and give affection. 🥹❤️

And then something wonderful happened…

Just two weeks later, Copito’s foster family decided they couldn’t imagine life without him! 🥰 What started as a temporary foster turned into his forever home. He was officially adopted and became Teddy! 🐶💕

Today, Teddy is thriving, playing with his new siblings and enjoying all the love, comfort, and security he deserves.

Stories like Teddy’s are exactly why fostering matters. Sometimes, opening your home “just for a little while” ends with finding a new member of the family. ❤️

Happy life, Teddy! You hit the jackpot. 🏡🐾💕

💗 Two precious girls, two heartbreaking stories: and one chance at a better life 🐾

These two beautiful girls were recently abandoned in separate locations on the outskirts of Sámara. Somehow, despite everything they have been through, both are now safe with us and receiving the care they desperately need.

🤍 Perla has severe ear mites, and her ears have been damaged from constantly scratching and shaking her head. The mites have also affected her skin, leaving it patchy and sore.

She is enjoying the love and attention from humans, but she is still very stiff and wary around many of the other dogs. She hasn’t quite let her guard down yet, but we’re giving her the time, patience, and security she needs to learn that she is safe.

🤎 Petra is a very beautiful, gentle soul. Right now, she is nervous and submissive, but you can already see the difference that feeling safe is making. She is slowly beginning to relax and trust that she is finally somewhere she will be cared for.

Petra has tick fever and anemia and, like Perla, is underweight and in need of nourishment, treatment, and plenty of TLC.

💔 This low season has been incredibly tough. We are dealing with so many cases, while also trying to help owners who are struggling to afford basic veterinary care for their beloved pets. We are already full to bursting, but when an abandoned animal needs help, we simply cannot turn our backs and leave them on the streets.

These girls didn't choose to be abandoned. They deserve the chance to heal, feel safe, and eventually find loving forever homes. ❤️

🐾 LIFE AT THE SHELTER 🐾

What does it really mean to help your local shelter?
What if you could give just 2 hours a week to change a dog’s life?

Many of the dogs who arrive at our shelter have been abandoned, neglected, or hurt by humans.

❤️‍🩹 And somehow, they still choose to trust us.
They still wag their tails. They still look for affection. They still have so much love to give

But there’s another side of shelter life… The side most people don’t see….

💩 The p**p that needs to be picked up.
🦴 The meals that need to be prepared and given twice a day.
💉 The dogs that need medication.
💔 The fights that need to be separated.
🧹🧼 The training, cleaning, bathing, organizing and endless daily work.

And then there are the hardest moments…

Saying goodbye to a dog who didn’t make it.
Watching a dog struggle 🌈🕊️
Carrying the emotional weight of hundreds of stories…

And sometimes dealing with people who expect shelters to be able to do everything without seeing the exhaustion, the responsibility, and the emotional toll behind it all.

A shelter is not just a place where dogs are kept… It is a place where people show up, every single day, for animals who have nowhere else to go ❤️‍🩹
