Last week, we said goodbye to three very special members of the CREAR family: Luiza, Gage, and Elan. 🧡

Over the past few months, they brought so much energy, creativity, and care to our students and our community here in Sámara. From art and games to hugs, laughter, and learning, they gave so much during their time with us—and we loved hearing how much the experience gave back to them, too.

Season after season, our interns become part of the CREAR story, and we’re so grateful for the time, ideas, and love they share with our students.

Luiza, Gage, and Elan, thank you for everything. You’ll always be part of the CREAR family. 🧡

La semana pasada nos despedimos de tres miembros muy especiales de la familia CREAR: Luiza, Gage y Elan. 🧡

Durante los últimos meses, compartieron muchísima energía, creatividad y cariño con nuestros estudiantes y nuestra comunidad aquí en Sámara. Entre arte, juegos, abrazos, risas y aprendizaje, dieron muchísimo durante su tiempo con nosotros, y nos encantó escuchar cuánto se llevaron también de esta experiencia.

Happy International Youth Day! 🌎💙

Today the world celebrates young people — their creativity, their courage, and their power to shape the future. At CREAR, we see that power every single day. In our classrooms in Playa Sámara and El Torito, youth from rural beach communities paint, perform, explore their environment, and dream bigger than the circumstances they were born into.

But opportunity isn't automatic. For many of our students, CREAR is the difference between a door opening and a door staying closed. Your donation keeps those doors open — funding art supplies, dynamic classes, career and college counseling, and scholarships that help our youth keep going.

Hoy el mundo celebra a los jóvenes — su creatividad, su valentía y su poder para transformar el futuro. En CREAR, vemos ese poder todos los días. Look what our students created! 🎨✨

From a feathery googly-eyed ghost to bold cubist portraits, mixed-media masks, and a one-of-a-kind clay creature — this is what happens when young artists are given the freedom to imagine, experiment, and express themselves.

At CREAR, art is at the heart of everything we do. For many of our students, it's the first place they're told there's no wrong answer — where a blank page becomes a chance to take risks, make choices, and be proud of something that's entirely their own. Through art, our students build confidence, strengthen focus and problem-solving, and find a voice for feelings that are hard to put into words. It's more than a craft — it's how they discover who they are and what they're capable of. 💙

¡Miren lo que crearon nuestros estudiantes! 🎨✨

Desde un fantasma de plumas con ojos saltones hasta atrevidos retratos cubistas, máscaras de materiales mixtos y una criatura de arcilla única — esto es lo que sucede cuando les damos a los jóvenes artistas la libertad de imaginar, experimentar y expresarse.

En CREAR, el arte es el corazón de todo lo que hacemos. Para muchos de nuestros estudiantes, es el primer lugar donde se les dice que no hay respuestas incorrectas — donde una hoja en blanco se convierte en la oportunidad de arriesgarse, tomar decisiones y sentirse orgullosos de algo completamente suyo. A través del arte, nuestros estudiantes desarrollan confianza, fortalecen la concentración y la resolución de problemas, y encuentran una voz para las emociones que cuesta expresar con palabras. Es más que una manualidad: es cómo descubren quiénes son y de lo que son capaces. 💙

Small seeds, big futures. 🌱

School may be out, but our garden project keeps growing! With the elementary schools closed for two weeks, Beatriz brought the seed trays home to CREAR to care for them — and they're already starting to sprout. 🌿

She can't wait to show the students their progress when they're back this week. Watching something you planted come to life? That's a lesson that sticks. 💚

Semillas pequeñas, grandes futuros. 🌱

Las escuelas están de vacaciones, ¡pero nuestro proyecto de huertas escolares sigue creciendo! Como las escuelas estuvieron cerradas durante dos semanas, Beatriz llevó las bandejas de semillas a CREAR para cuidarlas… y ya están comenzando a brotar. 🌿

Está emocionada de mostrarles a los estudiantes su progreso cuando regresen esta semana. ¿Ver crecer lo que uno sembró? Esa es una lección que se queda. 💚

That's a wrap on CREAR Summer Camp! 🌺

For 10 unforgettable days, 90 students dove into creativity, adventure, and Ohana — because this year YOU voted for a Lilo & Stitch theme in a landslide.

Week one in Sámara, week two in El Torito, with a different island-inspired adventure each day:
Art — Lilo & Stitch creations & coloring
Food — tropical fruit skewers
Beach — surf lessons, games & snacks (thank you, camp moms Lucie & Angie!)
Nature — a guided hike through the Werner Sauter Biological Reserve
Games — sack races, water balloons, relays & a community movie night

💙 A huge mahalo to our partners:
🌊 Samurio & &C Surf School — patience, lessons & surfboards that brought the theme to life
🥾 Samara Adventures — for guiding our nature hike

¡Así se vivió el Campamento de Verano de CREAR! 🌺

Durante 10 días inolvidables, 90 estudiantes se llenaron de creatividad, aventura y Ohana… porque este año USTEDES eligieron por goleada el tema de Lilo & Stitch.

La primera semana en Sámara y la segunda en El Torito, con una aventura diferente inspirada en la isla cada día:
Arte — creaciones y dibujos de Lilo & Stitch
Comida — brochetas de fruta tropical
Playa — clases de surf, juegos y meriendas (¡gracias a las mamás Lucie y Angie!)
Naturaleza — una caminata guiada por la Reserva Biológica Werner Sauter
Juegos — carreras de sacos, globos de agua, relevos y una noche de cine comunitaria

💙 Un enorme mahalo a nuestros aliados:
🌊 Samurio y &C Surf School — por su paciencia, sus enseñanzas y las tablas de surf que dieron vida a la temática

Join us for a special evening celebrating art and community!

On Thursday, July 2nd from 4:00–8:00 PM, CREAR will be transformed into an art gallery featuring the work of Sandra Austrich—our art teacher and an internationally exhibited professional artist.

Sandra’s work spans collage, clay sculpture, papier-mâché, printmaking, and acrylic painting, with exhibitions in New York and Korea. We are honored to be the first to showcase her work in Costa Rica.

We are so grateful our students receive free weekly art classes from such a talented and experienced artist.

Bring your friends and family for an inspiring evening of art, light appetizers, and a cash bar with b**r and w**e available.

A portion of all sales will be donated to CREAR to support free arts education for local youth.

We hope to see you there!

Acompáñanos a una noche especial para celebrar el arte y la comunidad.

El jueves 2 de julio de 4:00 a 8:00 p.m., CREAR se transformará en una galería de arte con la obra de Sandra Austrich, nuestra profesora de arte y artista profesional con exposiciones internacionales.

Su trabajo incluye collage, escultura en arcilla, papel maché, grabado y pintura acrílica. Ha expuesto en Nueva York y Corea, y es un honor ser los primeros en mostrar su obra en Costa Rica.

Nos sentimos muy afortunados de que nuestros estudiantes reciban clases de arte gratuitas de una artista con tanto talento y experiencia.

Trae a tus amigos y familia para una tarde inspiradora con arte, bocadillos, y venta de ce***za y vino.

Una parte de las ventas será donada a CREAR para seguir apoyando la educación artística gratuita para jóvenes de la comunidad.
