The Sloth World tragedy wasn’t a random accident. It happened because the system has failed sloths for decades. But we have a chance to change the system, for the better, for future sloths.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes with policy makers and legislators to enact REAL and lasting change for sloths.

Here is our FIVE part plan, recently sent to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), for consideration.

Stay tuned for more as we continue to work on this important issue, together. 💪

Florida lawmakers and conservation groups are pushing for sweeping sloth protection reforms following the collapse of Sloth World, an Orlando attraction tied to the deaths of at least 56 imported wild-caught sloths.

Introducing June’s Sloth of the Month, Hannah!

Hannah had a really rough start in life. She was orphaned at less than a month old and yet was also really sick when she arrived at our rescue center. While she is still healing, we are so proud of the progress she has made!

Stay tuned for more about her story this month and consider symbolically adopting Hannah to support her recovery!

The Mandalorian Had His Grogu. We Had Ours.🦥

This May, we're celebrating our very own Grogu as Sloth of the Month, and with The Mandalorian & Grogu releasing this week, the timing couldn't be more perfect.

Found as a newborn weighing just 275 grams, Grogu was orphaned and alone. Our team hand-raised her around the clock, feeding her every few hours and collecting fresh jungle leaves daily, until the day she was strong enough to return to the wild at 2.5kg.

We tracked her for over a year after release. We like to believe she's thriving. She may even be a mama sloth herself by now.

This month, symbolically adopt Grogu and help fund the care of the next tiny survivor who comes through our doors.

Grogu arrived as a tiny orphaned newborn and beat the odds to return to the wild. Celebrate her story this May and support sloth rescue by symbolically adopting her through The Sloth Institute.

The sloths in our care receive fresh leaves daily. It’s a lot of work and a lot of time to keep them well fed!

It costs us $5 per day per sloth to keep their tummies full. Can you help us feed a sloth this Friday?

‼️BREAKING: Florida wildlife officials announced a temporary halt on sloth imports following the investigation into Sloth World Orlando and the deaths of more than 50 sloths linked to the facility.

This announcement comes just days after Dr. Rebecca Cliffe from The Sloth Conservation Foundation (SloCo) and Sam Trull from The Sloth Institute (TSI) met directly with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and traveled to Orlando, Florida, where they spent several days meeting with lawmakers, representatives, commissioners, local authorities, and policymakers to discuss the urgent need for stronger protections for sloths in the United States.

As organizations that have spent years studying, rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting sloths, we know these animals are highly specialized, extremely sensitive, and fundamentally unsuitable for commercial captive environments, tourist attractions, sloth encounters, and the exotic pet trade.

Approximately 98% of sloths imported into the United States enter through Miami, making Florida the main gateway for the commercial sloth trade into the country. This means the implications of this decision go far beyond Florida itself.

This temporary pause is an important first step, but our work is far from over.

The Sloth Conservation Foundation and The Sloth Institute will continue working toward permanent protections, stronger regulations, and ultimately a nationwide ban on the import of wild-caught sloths for commercial use and private ownership in the United States.

This moment shows what is possible when science, experts, journalists, policymakers, and the public come together to demand change.
