The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970 in response to a massive oil spill off the Pacific Coast of southern California. Twenty years later, in 1990, the environmental movement spread globally. Now, 56 years later, over 1 BILLION people participate in Earth Day activities in over 190 countries across the globe.
As we enter our 10th year as Tambor Bay Turtles, it is vital to recognize all the work that has been done on the southern Nicoya Peninsula by volunteers from all over the world. Today, and every day, there are many organizations that dedicate their time, efforts, and energy to protect the distinctly unique place we call home. From the profound arribadas in Ostional, to the magical bioluminescent bays in Paquera, the biological corridor we share space with is truly special...and deserves to be protected.
