We are a Costa Rican gov declared public interest Great Green Macaw rainforest conservation project Ara Ambiguus es una especie en peligro de extinción.

Protecting the Great Green Macaw (Ara ambiguus):
Ara Manzanillo began in 2010 with the mission of reintroducing Great Green Macaws (Ara ambiguus) back into the rainforest in the South Caribbean region of Talamanca, Costa Rica. This project is first known scientifically controlled reintroduction effort the species. We are well on our way to realize our goal to establish a self-sufficient, naturally sustainable and large enough GGM population that eventually branches out towards the remaining wild populations of Great Greens located in Northern CR and down to central Panama. The Great Green Macaw is classified as critically endangered of extinction. The worldwide population is estimated at 1000-1500 individuals with approximately 350 in Costa Rica. Starting in 2010, the project has contributed to the free-flying population approximately 100 individuals, increasing the country's population by 25% and the world’s population by 15%.

Today is World Parrot Day — a celebration of some of the most intelligent, colorful, and extraordinary birds on our planet. 🦜💚

Parrots’ beauty, personality, and elegance remind us how incredible the natural world truly is.
But many parrot species are in danger of extinction.

Around the world, habitat loss, climate change, and the illegal wildlife trade have put parrots at rish. As forests change, it affects not only parrots, but also the countless plants and animals that depend on these habitats to survive.

That’s why World Parrot Day matters.

By bringing attention to parrots, we also bring attention to the importance of protecting forests, restoring habitats, and creating a healthier future for all wildlife. These birds inspire people to care — and that care has the power to create real change.

Follow along to see how Ara Manzanillo is re-writing the future for the Great Green Macaw 💫 🌎

We have to be honest—the first time we saw this nesting behavior, it felt a little… aggressive. Throwing wood shavings in your partner’s face?? 😅

But now, watching a mom gently toss chips onto her chick, we’re starting to rethink it. Maybe it’s not so harsh after all.

What do you think—boredom, or a small act of care and connection?
