Hace unas semanas compartimos la emocionante noticia de que logramos colocar nuestro primer transmisor satelital a una tortuga verde a finales de 2025 🥰🙌
Los datos recopilados mostraron que esta hembra todavía estaba plenamente en su fase de anidación. Las tortugas verdes pueden poner hasta siete nidadas de huevos a lo largo de varios meses, normalmente dejando entre 1 y 2 semanas entre cada evento de anidación. Gracias al transmisor, pudimos seguir sus movimientos entre intentos de anidación y anidaciones exitosas.
Durante las seis semanas de monitoreo, permaneció relativamente cerca de su playa de anidación (marcada como la “primera ubicación”), desplazándose hacia arriba y abajo por la costa del Pacífico de la Península.
Finalmente, el transmisor se desprendió cerca del lugar donde había sido colocado originalmente. Es muy posible que esto ocurriera durante un encuentro con un macho intentando aparearse, algo que puede volverse bastante agitado 😅
Afortunadamente, para ese momento ya teníamos otro transmisor satelital en camino. Entonces esperamos pacientemente hasta más avanzada la temporada de anidación, con la esperanza de marcar a una hembra justo antes de que iniciara su viaje migratorio de regreso a sus zonas de alimentación. Pronto les contamos como nos fue!! 🤩
A few weeks ago, we shared the exciting news that we had successfully attached our first satellite tag to a green turtle at the end of 2025 🥰🙌
The data collected showed that this female was still very much in her nesting phase. Green turtles can lay up to seven clutches of eggs over several months, usually with 1–2 weeks between each nesting event. Thanks to the tag, we were able to track her movements between nesting attempts and successful nesting activity.
Over the six weeks of monitoring, she remained relatively close to her nesting beach (marked as the “first location”), travelling up and down the Pacific coast of the Peninsula.
Eventually, the tag detached close to where it had originally been applied. It’s quite possible this happened during an encounter with a male attempting to mate — something that can become quite a scuffle 😅
Thankfully, by that stage we already had another satellite tag on the way. We were then waiting patiently until later in the nesting season, hoping to tag a female just before she began her migratory journey back to her feeding grounds. Soon we’ll let you know how it went!! 🙌✨🐢
