Miss Sayé Yabandeh recently visited San Quentin State Prison, in shared support of justice reform and the movement toward abolishing the death penalty, alongside the wider ecosystem of change-makers working in this space, including .
It was deeply moving to witness the work of The Last Mile and the human-centred programmes they have brought into San Quentin — from classrooms and coding initiatives to creative spaces such as the editing bay. These programmes do more than teach skills; they restore dignity, agency, and hope. You could feel a tangible shift in energy within the facility, a sense that humanity is being actively re-invited into the system.
As Miss Sayé shared, “It was beautiful to see the human aspect of what The Last Mile has implemented at San Quentin — programmes that honour growth, intelligence, and the possibility of transformation.”
Grateful for the dedication, vision, and care that The Last Mile continues to bring into San Quentin and beyond.
