Nothing can bring meaning to life like love🫂, and service🤝. No one can serve without love. When one converts his or her passions to purpose, taking the things they love to do and then using them to serve others in love, things start to make sense. We begin to get answers as to why we're here, what life is about, and what we can do each day to make this world a little better for ourselves and others🤷‍♂️. We were so happy to have First Christian Church of Sterling, KY, back with us again this past June. As you'll see from the pictures, they worked hard, played hard, and laughed hard. If was a joy to have them with us again and we look forward to seeing them again soon. And if you like to travel, to experience new things, to give of yourself, and to be challenged, then we have a spot for you. We'll take good care of you, and you'll be glad you came!

Howdy folks! We were so proud to have karatekas🥋, members of SOL☀, our youth initiative, and of course our beloved Carla, long-time dance instructor💃, active in the Independence Day parade the 15th of September🇨🇷. What a great way to show love for your country. It was a beautiful event, even for someone not originally from here. Then again, both my girls were participating, about an hour apart. I got my exercise in that day for sure. 🚶‍➡️🏃‍➡️🏃🚶‍➡️🚶🏃‍➡️🚶🚶‍➡️🏃🚶‍➡️🥵🤣

Howdy folks! Happy Costa Rica Independence Day🇨🇷! Kids should have a chance to celebrate their country's independence in a safe place, so our youth initiative SOL ☀(Service, Organization & Leadership) teamed up with the local city council in Calle Rodriguez and held an event for just that. Together we hosted 60+ kids and their families for games, crafts and a hot dog🌭. That's the correct meal for Independence Day, even in Costa Rica! It was a beautiful day, a beautiful event, with beautiful faces!

Kids need to find purpose and meaning in life. That comes though finding and developing their passions. Arts and sports programs are incredibly formative for children and youth, but unfortunately are not often offered in public schools here, and those with limited economic means can't afford private lessons. That's why we're adding art, music, theater, dance and tutoring👨‍🏫 to our ongoing karate classes at the mission. The kids and adolescents from lower income families that will be participating in our new programs won't have to pay for classes or transportation but they will have to participate in community service projects⚒️with SOL (Service, Organization and Leadership), our youth initiative. We'll have an army of kids giving back! We got the bus🚌two months ago, and it's almost ready to go. Now we have our teachers gearing up so the plan is to get the classes going at the mission next month. From left to right, Carlos (music🎼 for kids and guitar🎸for adolescents), Carla (folklore dance💃for kids), Oscar (karate🥋for kids), me, Charlie (karate🥋for adolescents), Roy (karate🥋for kids and adolescents in Los Guido and Desamparados in San Jose), Lee Ann (theater arts🎭for kids and adolescents) & Karen (drawing and painting🎨for kids and adolescents). Of course, Carla has been teaching for us in Carrillos and San Roque for more than 12 years, as has Roy has 13 years in Los Guido. We're excited about what they continue to do for young people and about all the new programs as well. We'll be offering ways for you to sponsor kids for these programs in the next few weeks. We can use your help with supplies, tables and chairs, guitars, sets, diesel for the bus and a driver's salary to pick these kids up and get them to the mission. What a blessing to be a blessing! Howdy folks,
Nothing we did here in 2026 to serve work teams, so they could help us better serve the community, would have taken place if it weren't for these fine people. The food, the construction, the organization, the guiding, the translating, everything is because I've found such great people with huge hearts for service. My love and appreciation to all, from left to right, Wilberth, Warner, Yendry, little Aitanna, Miguel, Oscar, Ana, Paola, Dannia, El Guapo (me) 😉, Anna, Idaneth, and Diego always having to be different, and getting his own photo in this case. 🤣 Actually he was out sick that day, unfortunately. You're the best and I thank God for you all!🙏

Kids deserve a nice, safe place to play, and many of the small homes in the area don't have much of a yard. Happy homes, just not much space. The kids in El Achiote, just a few blocks from the mission, will have a revitalized playground before the summer months get here (dry season December-April). SOL (Service, Organization & Leadership), our youth group, and a few from the karate classes as well, brought out 15 people to work this past Sunday. Then we went and had pizza after the rain started at mid-day. We're advancing well, and will hit it again the end of this month. Stay tuned! Blessings and peace to all!
