Young people have the hearts for service. They just need to be nurtured. There are many people across the globe with not enough to eat, and need to feel God's love. Our young people, plus a few adults, found 52 people last Sunday who needed a meal. There was enough left over to feed 8 more people the next day. Some of the recipients are without a home, some have disabilities, some are up in age, and some are just down on their luck, and we hope all found a little grace in the loving actions of SOL (Service, Organization & Leadership), our youth group. Some of our folks cooked, some served, and others searched the town's streets for people in need. What a team! Then we went out for pizza and ice cream and planned future service projects. Our dear friend Wilberth, more like a brother than an employee, with me for 22 or my 23 years here, cut his hand really badly the last day of work with the last team. He'll be out for awhile. He cut a tendon, and he has tens of stitches, so he'll need time to heal. I know that Wilberth holds a special place in the hearts of many of you, so I thought I'd reach out. I'd like to raise $1000 or so for him. We have a start, as the last team left a generous $220 for him to help out, which I've already deposited for him. That means we can raise another $780 for now and I'll let you know how the healing goes and for how long he'll be unable to make a living. If you decide to give you can mail something or give on the platform on the link below, but please let me know at [email protected] if you intend to send something so that I can make sure it's designated and all gets to him. Humanity produces 2.12 billion tons of solid waste annually. It doesn't always make it to the landfill, but we can all do our part by reducing, reusing and recycling, and by getting out and picking up trash. Representatives from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), part of Strong Missions' team from Oak Grove UMC, VA, members of our youth initiative SOL, and local citizens of Distrito San Jose, got out a week ago to pick clean up the streets a bit. There were 35 of us jumping ditches! We then shared a meal together. Thanks for making a difference!

Howdy folks, up to our ears with teams these days, no days off for 3 weeks now, but I wanted to send this thank you from one of the Sunday School programs that have received donations the work teams are bringing from the U.S. Out of the mouths of babes. Kids from lower income families don't have access to transportation, especially in rural areas. That leaves these kids out of programs such as ours, except for those who live nearby and can walk. Even that becomes an issue on rainy days, and it rains🌧️ between 14 and 18 feet a year here from May to November. If we had transportation for them, however... Well, take a look at this! We got a great deal and so once again we stepped out on faith that we'll bring in all we need to pay for it and for the driver. We still lack around 7K, but God is good and we know we're doing what's right. Keep a look out for our new program where you can sponsor a child for karate🥋, dance💃, music🎼, and theater arts🎬. The Costa Rican department of education simply does not have the resources to take care of all of their schools. Many are in disrepair. Roofs leak, ceilings cave, school grounds flood, paint peels or fades, drainage pipes plug, arts and sports departments go unfunded, electric and plumbing problems arise, and students continue on regardless. We were so happy to have Follow Missions with us a week ago, made up of 3 different churches, Beulah Methodist Church, Mauldin Methodist Church and Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, all from South Carolina, as they gave their blood (Noah), sweat and tears for these high school students in Grecia, as well as paint classroom space at the mission for the new tutoring and music programs. Students at the high school joined them in painting and even serenaded them with a song mid-week. In addition, these fine folks delivered food, visited cultural sites, and had a day at the beach. We were so glad to have them back again, to see old friends, and to make new ones. They were a blessing to us and the students they served, and they have our eternal thanks and love.
