El trabajo que se realiza en el Bus de las Artes es un trabajo en equipo, no solo a lo interno del Bus sino también con nuestra contraparte: La comunidad, con quien se coordina toda la logística y detalles del evento.
En esta foto nuestro equipo está con Ari de .cr que es una Alianza Costarricense para la Conservación de las Tortugas Marinas y la Ciencia y son los organizadores del Festival del Manatí en Gandoca- Limón.

🐢💚¡Gracias por hacerlo posible! 🐢💚

El Festival del Manatí y la Tortuga Marina 2025 fue una verdadera fiesta de conservación y comunidad.

Durante tres días celebramos juntos con 1.000 personas nuestros tesoros naturales con talleres educativos para las escuelas y colegios, actividades para toda la familia, stands educativos y música en vivo.

Este maravilloso encuentro solamente fue posible gracias al trabajo en red y al compromiso de tantas personas e instituciones.

Happy World Turtle Day from the Southern Caribbean, where leatherback hatchlings are already out and about for the past weeks!

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Every year, we carefully prepare our nesting beaches to support our critical monitoring efforts and create a safe environment for nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings. 💪📊

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?
To 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 in our Southern Caribbean project, we divide our 7.5 km beach into sectors and 150 transects, marked with wooden stakes every 50 meters. These markers help us track nesting activity, understand female nesting preferences, and monitor relocated nests.

Since we don’t operate a traditional hatchery, we move at-risk nests to safer areas along the beach to protect them during incubation.

Gandoca Beach faces significant challenges—such as 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗴𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴—making it difficult for females to nest and hatchlings to survive. By maintaining open, safe areas, we increase the chances of successful nesting and give hatchlings a better shot at reaching the ocean.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱?
🖌 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀
Each season, we replace the 50-meter wooden markers, repaint them with numbers, and add reflective tape so they’re visible at night.

🗑 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀
We remove driftwood from the sandy zones, especially where females typically nest and where we relocate eggs. Clean, open spaces make it easier for turtles to lay eggs and for hatchlings to safely reach the sea.
