DROPS OF DHARMA
The Three Roots of Vajrayana
In the path of Vajrayana, the Three Roots are the essence of spiritual accomplishment.
The Guru is the root of blessings.
He embodies the union of compassion and wisdom and is the living source of all realizations. Through devotion to the Guru, the disciple’s mind opens and receives the inspiration that awakens their Buddha nature.
The Yidam is the root of realization.
Through the practice and meditation on the Yidam, one recognizes one’s own mind as inseparable from the deity. In this way, both temporary attainments and the ultimate realization of enlightenment are achieved.
The Dakini is the root of enlightened activity.
She represents dynamic wisdom that removes obstacles and spontaneously manifests compassionate actions for the benefit of all beings.
Practicing the Three Roots with discipline, and bodhichitta leads swiftly to complete awakening for the welfare of all.
