Today, a baby goats was born on the farm at Casa CreSer, which we are preparing with much love to welcome adolescent mothers and their children.
Our farm is a space where nature teaches care, responsibility, and new beginnings.
Here, each life symbolizes opportunity, learning, and the future.

Un nuevo capítulo comienza a desplegarse con fluidez. A medida que nuestra misión evoluciona, nuestro nombre se transforma con ella.
Casa Sonja se convierte en Casa CreSer.
Este cambio refleja una transformación que ya está tomando forma. En respuesta a la realidad urgente que enfrenta Costa Rica, nos estamos preparando para abrir un Centro Residencial para Madres Adolescentes y sus Hijos, creado para apoyar a niñas que enfrentan el embarazo y la maternidad en situaciones de extrema vulnerabilidad.
El nombre CreSer habla de crecimiento y de la esencia de llegar a ser; expresa la convicción de que, con el apoyo adecuado, incluso los comienzos más difíciles pueden abrir la puerta a nuevas posibilidades.
Avanzamos con cuidado y responsabilidad mientras Casa CreSer toma vida: un lugar donde las jóvenes madres y sus hijos podrán empezar de nuevo y construir un futuro definido por la dignidad.

The new chapter is gently unfolding. As our mission continues to grow, our name evolves with it.
Casa Sonja becomes Casa CreSer.
This change reflects a transformation taking shape. In response to the urgent reality in Costa Rica, we are preparing to open a Residential Center for Adolescent Mothers and Their Children, created for girls facing pregnancy and motherhood in situations of extreme vulnerability.
The name CreSer speaks to growth and becoming, and to the belief that with the right support, even the most difficult beginnings can open the door to new possibilities.
We are progressing with care and responsibility as Casa CreSer comes to life: a place where young mothers and their babies can start anew and build a future defined by dignity.
We look forward to sharing more updates and our new website with you soon.

Over the past year, much has been happening behind the scenes.
This period has been marked by careful reflection, the strengthening of our internal structure, and a deep commitment to ensuring that each step forward remains grounded in the long-term vision of the mission. Much of this work is not always visible from the outside, yet it has been both meaningful and necessary.
A unanimous and wholehearted decision was made to transform our temporary shelter home into a Residential Center for Adolescent Mothers and Their Children.
We are now in a phase of thoughtful preparation and transition. Important foundations are being laid, and ongoing conversations with the Patronato Nacional de la Infancia (PANI) are helping to guide what is taking shape.
Our commitment remains clear: to walk alongside those facing extreme vulnerability and to help foster real, lasting transformation in their lives.
This next chapter is emerging with intention and care, and we look forward to sharing more soon.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who has stood with us thus far. Your continued trust makes it possible to move forward with purpose.

Durante el último año, muchas cosas han estado ocurriendo entre bastidores.
Este período ha estado marcado por una cuidadosa reflexión, el fortalecimiento de nuestra estructura interna y un profundo compromiso con asegurar que cada paso hacia adelante permanezca arraigado en la visión a largo plazo de la misión. Gran parte de este trabajo no siempre es visible desde el exterior, sin embargo, ha sido tanto significativo como necesario.
Se tomó una decisión unánime y firme de transformar nuestro hogar de acogida temporal en un Centro Residencial para Madres Adolescentes con sus Hijos. Se hizo evidente que este era el camino correcto a seguir.
Ahora nos encontramos en una fase de preparación y transición reflexiva. Se están sentando bases importantes, y las conversaciones continuas con el Patronato Nacional de la Infancia (PANI) están ayudando a orientar lo que está tomando forma.
Nuestro compromiso permanece claro: caminar junto a quienes enfrentan una vulnerabilidad extrema y ayudar a fomentar una transformación real y duradera en sus vidas.
Este próximo capítulo está surgiendo con intención y cuidado, y esperamos poder compartir más pronto.
Estamos profundamente agradecidos con todos quienes han estado con nosotros hasta ahora. Su confianza continua hace posible avanzar con propósito.

We are pleased to introduce that Adelaida Nieto has joined us as our new General Director.🌺🌸
Adelaida brings an outstanding track record leading governmental institutions and NGOs, as well as international organizations such as UNESCO, where she promoted cultural, educational, literacy, and child rights programs across more than 20 countries.💪🏼
Adelaida has also worked extensively on initiatives to reduce violence, foster peace, and promote overall well-being in vulnerable communities and high-risk contexts🕊️💞.
Our Board of Directors remains fully active, led by Canel Frichet, cofounder since 2021, ensuring continuity of Casa Sonja’s vision and mission.💝🫶🏼❤️
In the coming months, new members dedicated to children’s care and well-being will also join our team, and we will keep you informed of each incorporation😇. But for today please join us in welcoming Adelaida into our community!🫶🏼🏡🤗

In December of last year, Casa Sonja moved to its new permanent home just outside of Cobano. The shelter is now located on 5-hectares of what was cattle pasture, with rolling hills and a river. A reforestation project is underway, with over 2,000 trees planted to date, including hundreds of fruit trees. As well as the children's dormitory and a communal area, there is a greenhouse that supplies greens and vegetables to the kitchen. With the rainy season, the gardens around the dormitories are starting to grow, bringing a beautiful splash of color.

After many mechanical issues with our old bus, we had to look for an alternative transport solution for busing the kids to school, appointments and activities. Thanks to the kind generosity of Genera Holdings we have this beautiful new bus that is a huge help to the daily running of the shelter. Thank you so much Genera!

We stand up for kids - Help us to accommodate more children and their mothers
"Casa de Restauracion" is a private social non-profit organization that offers shelter to women and children. The shelter was founded two years ago by a wonderful woman named Sonja Piez Bautista, who created a home to provide a safe, stable and nurturing environment. The demand for her private shelter is desperately growing but due to the limited space at their current location, she is at present only able to provide full-time care for 4 children maximum without their mothers.
Should this shelter not exist, the heartbreaking alternative would be the children being taken into the care of the state, away from their families.
Alongside providing a home, love and full-time care, Sonja also visits the houses of 45 other children living in poverty providing food, clothing, school necessities, emotional support and above all to ensure the children are not neglected.
How your donations would help us:
1. We are dependent on donations such as clothing, food, furniture, kitchen utensils, sheets, towels, school utensils, hygiene products, etc
2. We are in urgent need of more housing space and volunteers to accommodate more children and their mothers.
3. A larger area of land and accommodation, to provide the space where children can play, recover and heal in a safe, clean, nurturing and loving environment.
4. Allow for more resources (ie. more staff and economic capabilities) to support Sonja to continue her amazing work.
With your help, we want to create a Family Shelter, with a dorm room capacity for boys and girls separately and one dedicated for the women. This would allow these women to be together and share their experiences while offering a safe space to recover from their own trauma.
By supporting this initiative, you are actively participating in breaking the cycle of violence and poverty. Our vision is to create a space of acceptance, love, sharing and healing where families can safely address their traumatic experiences and work towards creating a better future for themselves and their communities.
