Since several people have inquired, I am resharing the link to the weather station at Loma Linda Field Station. You can find current conditions as well as data from the previous few years. Historic data is available upon request.

Weather Underground provides local & long-range weather forecasts, weather reports, maps & tropical weather conditions for locations worldwide.

🌿 Exciting news! Our paper "Review and Assessment of Smartphone Apps for Forest Restoration Monitoring," published in Restoration Ecology, has ranked in the top 10% of most-viewed papers in the journal for 2024! 🎉

We're thrilled that this work — exploring how smartphone technology can support forest restoration efforts — has resonated with so many researchers and practitioners in the ecological restoration community.

We are proud of the research team at Loma Linda Field Station and collaborators at Finca Cántaros who helped to do the heavy lifting on the field work to carry out this study.

With increased interest in forest restoration comes an urgent need to provide accurate, scalable, and cost-effective monitoring tools. The ubiquity of smartphones has led to a surge in monitoring app...

Happy International Day for Biological Diversity! This year's theme is "acting locally for global impact."

Restoring degraded ecosystems and providing information to make positive change happen on the ground is what we work toward every day. Here are few images from our work in the last weeks. Biodiversity doesn't just come back in dramatic ways. Sometimes it starts small, like these remarkable camouflaged insects found in our restoration plots. Every species that returns is a small sign that local efforts to restore forest can make a difference.

Happy Earth Day from the Tropical Landscape and Climate Program!

We celebrate this beautiful planet and the people working to protect it.
This week, our science technicians are collecting seeds from rare and endangered tree species to grow in our greenhouse and include in forest restoration projects across the region. This is hope for bringing back more biodiversity to degraded lands. This is what your support makes possible.

In just our first 15 months, here is what we've built together:
🌿 Protected and restored over 100 hectares of forest and degraded land
🌱 Grew 25,000+ native trees and donated ~10,500 seedlings of 52 native species to restoration projects in Costa Rica
🌎 Led large-scale forest restoration research spanning 8 countries across Latin America
🎓 Awarded scholarships, mentorship, and training to 5 graduate students from Costa Rica and Peru
🔬 Published 6 peer-reviewed studies and launched free multilingual science workshops and webinars
🏔️Deployed affordable environmental monitoring tools now used by researchers and governments across the tropical Andes
💚 This Earth Day, please consider donating to support our programs. Every gift directly funds forest restoration, students, and science in the tropics.

This year, we are restoring forest along this beautiful creek. 🌿💧

Across much of the landscape, forest has been cleared for grazing right up to the water’s edge. The result has been degraded riparian ecosystems, increased erosion, warmer stream temperatures, and greater flood risk.

By reforesting along the riverbanks, we are helping stabilize soils, protect water quality, and rebuild habitat. Just as importantly, these riparian corridors will reconnect isolated forest fragments, improving landscape connectivity for wildlife movement and long-term ecosystem resilience.

Healthy rivers need healthy forests. And healthy forests support healthy communities.
