e of our locally based Salva un Amigo volunteers until they are flown to Canada to find their forever homes or adopted locally in Colombia. Our objective is to support efforts to find as many loving homes as possible for these wonderful pups in Colombia, as well as Canada. We also support efforts to care for and sterilize Colombian street dogs and cats, to raise awareness about the plight of street animals, and ultimately to promote the understanding that these animals are not second class pets - they deserve loving homes! We rely on a small network of foster homes in Colombia and Canada to save these dogs, and our dream is to build a facility in Colombia where we can care for them safely, provide medical care, and eventually adopt them out to loving families. Colombian high-kill shelters are not a safe place for these dogs, and life on the streets is often brutal and short: dogs are poisoned, hit by cars, beaten, and abused on a daily basis. If you are considering adopting from or donating to Save a Friend Dog Rescue please note that we are a registered not-for-profit organization in Ontario and therefore we take no profit or salary from any adoption fees or donations received. There are also no costs in Colombia for Salva un Amigo as they are also a not-for-profit staffed by volunteers. As we do not have any bricks and mortar shelter in Colombia or Canada we rely exclusively on foster homes to save dogs' lives. Hola, friends!

A little over 10 days ago, we were alerted to the presence of this beautiful girl in heat and on the street. She was in urgent need of a spay, as well as vaccinations and some good and nutritious food. Our friend Luz made a plea for her rescue to other local groups, but unfortunately, everyone here is at capacity, and that is the truth. Before we knew it, she melted away, back into the street. The good news is that yesterday, Luz and her team located her again. We’ll be sponsoring her spay, vaccinations, pre and post-op transport and nutritious food. So often, supporting cases like this feel like drying up tiny drops in a tsunami with paper towel, but we know everything counts in small amounts and that’s one of the things that keeps us going.

Pawsitive vibes for her are appreciated. And thank you, Luz, for so, so many tiny drops. 💦

Hola friends!

Soy Petunia! Fui abandonada por mi familia, permanecía frente al apartamento donde vivía 😢 llorando pidiendo comida, sin entender que había pasado 😞, empecé a quedarme en el parqueadero del conjunto pero personas que no gustan de los gatos pusieron la queja en la administración y la orden fue sacarme, pues una señora empezó a alimentarme y entendí que por fin era importante para alguien, los otros gatos me pegaban, yo estaba muy asustada,después de muchos intentos me logró rescatar, me entró a su apartamento, soy muy esquiva pero estoy empezando a creer en la gente, me gusta que me consientan,siempre hay un pero, la señora se va definitivamente del país en un mes aproximadamente y dice que si no consigo hogar definitivo con el dolor del alma me volverá a soltar😭😢😢. No sé qué suerte correré ☹️, por favor🙏 si no me puede adoptar, ayuda a compartir, no quiero tener un futuro incierto.

Happy Friday y comparto esto para un tercero. Esta adorable perrita se llama Hada y qué nombre tan perfecto para esta princesa. 🧚‍♀️

Es de raza pinscher mini, fue rescatada y merece una familia amorosa que la cuide toda su vida. Tiene 3 años. Adopción responsable y el adoptante cubre los costos de esterilización y vacunas.

¡Hola, friends y feliz viernes!

Today, we are highlighting another responsible guardian and her pup, Panda! These are the people that benefit from our free spay and neuter campaigns and also educate the community at large about responsible ownership, so please meet Jenifer and Panda.

Hoy destacamos a otra dueña responsable y a su perrita Panda. Estas son las personas que se benefician de nuestras jornadas de esterilización y que, además, educan a la comunidad sobre la tenencia responsable de mascotas, entonces les presentamos a Jenifer y Panda. Jenifer participó en la jornada llevando a su perrita Panda.

Cuenta que se la regaló un familiar que vive en una zona campestre, a las afueras de Bogotá. La mamá de Panda ha tenido varias crías, y cuando ella era apenas una cachorra se la entregaron para que hiciera parte de su hogar. Hoy vive en el barrio Loma Linda y es profundamente querida por toda la familia. Jenifer asegura que la tienen bien cuidada, con todas sus vacunas al día. Panda duerme en su propia camita dentro de la habitación, y muchas veces también en la cama de Jenifer, porque es parte de la familia. Jenifer expresa su agradecimiento y ya que reconoce que no tendría los recursos para pagar la cirugía de manera particular. Considera que estas iniciativas ayudan mucho a la comunidad, porque evitan que nazcan más cachorros que podrían terminar en la calle sin que nadie los quiera o los cuide.

Jenifer participated in our most recent event, bringing her dog Panda. She explains that a relative who lives in a rural area outside Bogotá gave her Panda. Panda's mother has had several puppies, and when Panda was just a pup, she was given to Jenifer to become part of her family. Today, Panda lives in the Loma Linda neighborhood and is deeply loved by the whole family. Jenifer says they take good care of her, keeping all her vaccinations up to date. Panda sleeps in her own bed inside the room, and often on Jenifer's bed too, because she's part of the family. Jenifer expresses her gratitude as she knows she wouldn't have the resources to pay for the surgery privately. She believes these initiatives greatly help the community because they prevent more puppies from being born and ending up on the street with no one to want or care for them.

Fui encontrada corriendo por la carretera hace un mes, un carro casi me atropella un señor me salvó pero dónde trabaja no permiten tenerme es por eso que busco hogar para toda la vida, tengo 4 meses aproximadamente, mis adoptantes cubren mis vacunas y esterilización. Seré talla mediana posiblemente grande. No me entregan para barrios de sobrepoblación callejera.

Nos emociona anunciar que patrocinaremos otra jornada el próximo mes en Soacha para 100 aniamalitos más. En honor a esto, queremos destacar el trabajo de algunas de las personas increíbles de esta comunidad. Así que, les presentamos a Vanessa, quien participó en nuestra última jornada en febrero. Aquí está su historia.Vanessa vive en el sector de Loma Linda, en una zona de invasión, y trabaja en reciclaje. Se enteró de la jornada gracias a Soraya, una proteccionista de la comunidad, quien les informó que una fundación estaría realizando esterilizaciones gratuitas.
Cuenta que en su sector, Capellania, hay muchos animales en situación de calle y que para ellos es casi imposible asumir el costo de una cirugía. “Nosotros vivimos del reciclaje, no tenemos recursos. Operar un animal cuesta dinero y es muy difícil reunirlo”, explica.

Preocupada por la cantidad de perritos y gatitos sin hogar, Vanessa ayudó a registrar alrededor de 40 animales de su comunidad; finalmente, cerca de 30 pudieron asistir a la jornada.
Ella asegura que en la zona hay muchísimos animalitos que necesitan apoyo y que este tipo de iniciativas representan una ayuda invaluable para las familias y para el control responsable de la población animal.

We are excited to announce that we will be sponsoring another jornada next month in Soacha for 100 more aniamalitos. In honour of this, we would like to highlight the work of some of the incredible people in this community.

So, please meet Vanessa who attended our last jornada in February. This is her story. Vanessa lives in the Loma Linda sector, it’s an unregulated settlement. She works in recycling. She learned about the event thanks to Soraya, an animal rights activist in the community, who informed her that we offer free sterilizations.

She says that in her neighborhood, Capellania, there are many stray animals and that it is almost impossible for them to afford surgery. “We live off recycling; we don't have resources. Operating on an animal costs money, and it's very difficult to raise it,” she explains.
Concerned about the number of homeless dogs and cats, Vanessa helped register around 40 animals from her community; ultimately, about 30 were able to attend the event. She affirms that there are many animals in the area that need support and that these kinds of initiatives represent invaluable help for families and for the responsible control of the animal population.

Feliz Lunes! Soy Toli y busca hogar para toda la vida. 🥰

Fue encontrado caminando por la carretera en el Tolima con un ojo afuera, no se sabe si fue golpeado, una familia que transitaba por la vía lo vió y no pudo ser indiferente para auxiliarlo, fue llevado a Fusagasugá inmediatamente a una veterinaria donde le introdujeron el ojo quedando con baja visión por ahí ,es un chico de 18 meses aproximadamente, esterilizado, talla pequeña, no lo pueden tener porque tienen más perritos.
